I took my wife and my two kids (five and three years old) to the 2:00 PM matinee. As I thought, it was a bit loud for the three year old even with ear plugs. He made it through four songs and then waited in the lobby with mom. But my five year old watched, colored in a coloring book, and grooved along with the band.
It was a pretty good show with the nice surprise of “Supernatural” three songs into the set. I think the funniest thing Robben said was unintentionally funny. After a couple of songs he welcomed the crowd and said “Good Morning.” There were a few chuckles throughout the audience as everyone realized he said it as only a musician could say “good morning” at 2:00 in the afternoon.
Robben struggled a bit with the vocals on Chevrolet and Supernatural, but then he shinned on most of the other songs especially “Don’t Deny Your Love” and “Hey Brother.” His guitar playing was so nice, not as fiery as Thursday night but just so good. I feel foolish even having the gall to rate or analyze the performance. He is just such a great performer, especially when you realize how difficult it is to lead a band and entertain an audience. Thank you for the outstanding run at Yoshi’s Robben.
