I wouldn't recommend it if you're not very handy with a soldering iron. Just getting the cover off can be a bear.
Then you need to find where the fine wires from the coil are attached to the main cable. Mark them so you know which one was formerly connected to ground (the shield) and which one is hot. Mess this up and you've got instant Peter Green. You need a new cable with enough conductors to route each coil back to the control cavity of the guitar. You could do this with shielded two conductor microphone wire, but most pickup manufactures use 4 conductor wire.
Then go to something like the Seymour Duncan website and look up all the fun you can have with switching combinations. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.
