Hey .... space cowboys ................
Can anyone tell me if Robben has recorded the song "moonchild" yet somewhere ?
Does anyone knows the background of this song ?
If you have some info about it, please let me know.

Actually, he hasn't recorded it yet, but he plays it live. I have nothing about the background of this great song ( that's moonchild blues by the way ). |

Fill,
I believe it was recorded. The only problem was that after recording it Robben had a falling out with his old label and they will not let him release any of the material he had put together for a new album. One of those songs was Moonchild Blues. Its really too bad because I think its a fantastic song.

I second that emotion...fabulous song, and it seems to get better every time I hear Robben do it. (Okay, I may be a bit biased.) He gave lead sheets and instruction playing it in his August clinic, and I think I have heard him state he cannot record it...Politics, blecccchhh. What ever happened to peace, love, and understanding? I know I have said this before, but I just don't get it...why are there always these ridiculous battles? No one wins, and the art gets the brunt of it. No wonder I prefer hanging out with seventh graders.
Really great to hear that Belgique got their taste of Robben...Frunk, don't tell me you didn't break down and take the T.E.E. a Bruxelles? Ah well, there is always Paris. Mon dieu, je veut vachement aller! Whaddya say we just play hookey from work/school and grab a cheap flight??? I have some friends who will let us stay at their place! _________________ www.elizabethgage.com |

Yes, Robben did record it on the Verve/Blue Thumb attempt to record Blue Moon.
So they, at this point. have the rights to any release of that song.
Robben wrote & loves the song and would like to see it released, but there is a 5 year hold on it before Robben can do what he wants with the song. 2 1/2 of those years have passed, so maybe it will appear on one of the next albums _________________ B C-ing U!

And preventing Robben from recording the song for five years behooves them HOW? Sorry Lobster Man, I have NEVER understood that kind of idiocy. Seems the company would stand to make more money if Robben released the song, but silly me, who believes in doing the right thing because it IS THE RIGHT THING. What a dreamer I am, huh?!
I have two rules in my classroom:
1. Do the right thing.
2. Follow rule #1. _________________ www.elizabethgage.com |

I know i am stubborn, grand moderator, but it's the more common way to put an artist under pressure |

No one wins...bad karma. Pressure for what? Not to be able to do one's art? I think it is moronic! _________________ www.elizabethgage.com |

it is the common way in France : - The Artist doesn't want the way they produce him, they stop the process and hold the music , a lot of time the contract says : While with us U can't have any other record deal.
Obviously that's not the case , Mr Ford went to another company , but they kept the rights for five years, so it seems identical.
Now imagine one get a lack of inspiration , or a family crash or whatever :
What happens ? u don't even own your music !!!!!! For me that will be a lot of pressure.
Anyway this story hapenned to 2 guys i knew : Bass & guitar , singers & composers, they went to Paris to get a contract to do a record, then the production wanted them in a way , they were reluctant to do it, so they were told : go back to your town we will call you and remember u have no rights to sign with others during 3 Years and a half, meanwhile we keep the single with us.
May be they were young & presbyt. |

Many of my songs are still owned by a publisher...I know how that works...one of the reasons I sing in my classroom and for friends! It is a much kinder, gentler venue...better than swimming with sharks... _________________ www.elizabethgage.com |
