Hi, new guy here. Long time RF fan though
I've been listening to the Live at Notodden Festival lately, and imho this has some of the best recorded RF tones I've ever heard.
Anybody here that knows what gear the man was using on those nights? He is pictured with his signature model on the cover, but to me, the sound is much more tele like.
Also is that the dumble amp he is using for that sweet od?
thanks in advance |

Welcome new guy! I know less than NOTHING about gear, but you are in good company here, as you will soon discover.

If my memory serves me correctly (haven't heard the tracks in a while)the tone on tracks like Doodlin' sound like middle pickup of a strat through some kind of low wattage Fender.
You can hear him switch from the mid to the front very briefly and then go straight back to the mid. But then on Stormy Monday (is this from the same recording?) it sounds just like his RF sig thru the Dumble!
My personal preference is the tuby fenderish sound (just breaking up) like on Doodlin' and 'Walkin' By Myself'. There's a lot of soul to that tone. Very similar to 'Tenth Avenue Tango' from the Bruce Willis session. (Though that sounds like a tele.....Go figure!!)
Like I always say what the hell do I know

Doodlin' is one of Robben's best I think. Anyone else notice that it's basically the solos from Robben's Hot Licks tape ? |

It sounds like an RF model going through a normal Fender amp, like a Twin or something.

I think so too, Marin. Robben didn't take his Dumble to Europe. back in those days. As an alternative, he took a Fender Twin. _________________ "Don't play what's there, play what's not there" Miles Davis |
