I just saw Robben playing with John Mayall 2 nights ago in Milwaukee, WI (great show!!) and Robben mentioned a new CD yet I'm not finding anything new here or elsewhere. Any news on that here?

Being a daily visitor to this board, I can tell you that what you heard Robben say at the show about a new cd is completely news here. So, you've heard the latest!

The last we've heard about a (possible) new cd is shortly after the GA&F tour early this year, but no news on that for a long time...

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the tune he mentioned was titled "Tribute to Freddy King" and it was truely a great lick at that. I love his tribute cds, the two I have (so far) is Tribute to Mike Bloomfield and Tribute to Paul Butterfield. Robben does a great job playing tunes from both late, great artists.
Needless to say, I just ordered several more Robben Ford cds and a DVD from Amazon.com as I need more of his music for my collection. I'm hoping to see him again here someday with his own band, perhaps at our Summerfest some year?

I'm workin' on it Smile

He's got many cds. I'm surprized that he's not well known yet by many.

In response to the several posts which have brought up the subject lately...

I don't know what the status is on the "retrospective" CD that Concord wanted to release this year in lieu of a 'new' album. I haven't heard anything in awhile and have been slightly out-of-the-loop due to all the work I was involved in with the Allman Brothers Band this year.

I do know that Robben spent time listening to his past albums, selecting songs and making a list for the album earlier this year. He also went into the studio and recorded 4 or 5 new tracks, to be used as 'bonus tracks' for the CD.
But I haven't heard anything about the project since then.

If I DO hear of anything, I'll let you all know right away.

Just my own personal opinion, but I would also imagine that Robben and his label, Concord, will be looking at recording an entirely new CD in '06 as the last one is now a couple of years old.

As for the 'Freddy King tribute' tune, I believe Robben was probably referring to "Cannonball Shuffle" off his latest studio CD, "Keep On Running", which has become a regularly featured instrumental in his performances.

Thanks, Daved! We trust that you will indeed update us as soon as you know anything... Very Happy

Now that the ABB tour is over, what are you up to? Well deserved vacation, perhaps?

Will you be involved with the 2006 version of GA&F?

Good to hear from you.
