I really like the sounds coming from "Another Fine Day" by The Ford Blues Band. It's got a diverse mix of styles but the horn section brings it all together for me. It also includes a very cool tune by Gabriel Ford, "Be Careful What You Wish For." It's a great cd and some good advice too ! Very Happy

Roadwarrior, we already knew that we share musical taste. The new Ford Brothers album is, indeed, an auditory treat. In August (Ukiah) Patrick commented how happy they were with the sound, particularly the horns, and I think it had just been mixed. I don't think you can go wrong with any project that has the Ford brothers involved. Mediocre is simply NOT in their vocabularies. And typical of classics, they just keep getting better and better! Very Happy

Anyone who knows me well, will tell you that my love of music spans literally many decades and diverse musical styles. Just ask Robben. My tastes have often been called very eclectic. Neil Larson calls it my "passion". To limit my appreciation to a short list of artists is very hard to do.

Since this board is more specifically about guitarists, the most well known & obvious having already been cited, what follows is a short, immediate, but far from complete, list of guitar players who come readily to my mind as players I listen to regularly, admire greatly for a variety of reasons, and always enjoy listening to without reservation.

There are many more guitarists I would GLADLY put on this list, but they may be more suited to lists of other types, and then.... where would it all end?

mrgwangi - Albert Lee indeed! Thanks for the heads up on the new CD. Many of the list-folk here might not be into his chicken pickin style, but he is one of the great all time players. I encourage you all to check him out. If you can find a copy of his live CD (with Hogan's Heroes) snatch it up.

I listen to a lot of guitar players. But there are some who are most inspiring over the years:

Jimi Hendrix - For he triggered me to start playing (I'm a lefty too)
Albert Collins - For his killing tone
Eric Clapton - For his devotion for the blues
Duane Allman - For his wonderful slide work

Steve Howe; Adrian Belew and Marc Ribot for their amazing personal and original style of playing.

Steve Vai for his extraterrestrial fretwork.

And Robben Ford, who is a continuous source of inspiration to me in the present!

most of the mentioned artists are international well known artists.... here is my German special:

Frank Diez, together with Colin Hodgkinson (formerly bass player of WHITESNAKE) forming the "Electric Blues Duo"

Frank Diez is a member of Peter Maffays tour band... not a really good reference for blues music... but the duo with Colin Hodgkinson is outstanding.... If you ever have the possibility to see them live.... you will understand....

I've been listening to a young guitar slinger named Joe Bonamassa. He just released a blues album called Blues Deluxe that I think has some great playing on it. Its got quite an edge to it if you're into that kind of thing.

Joe B. is a lot of fun live ! I saw him last month when he opened for Peter Frampton in St. Pete. He jokes around a lot in between tunes and he really enjoys performing. His blues, which make up about 50% of his show, were great.
