I'm looking to purchase a couple more of Robbens CD's. It would be nice to see what others think of the strength of each CD. Rank as many as you want. My 3 Robben cd's are ranked below:
1. Talk to Your Daughter
2. Handful of Blues
3. Blues Collection
Let me know what you think about Robbens CD's. |

I love them all, but right now my favorite is "Blue Moon". You might already have that one. Out of the 3 listed, I guess I'd go with "Talk..." |

My current favorite is "Keep on Running" followed by Mystic Mile. Though the "Handful of Blues" album is killer...."Talk to..."
I got to stop, lot's of great music from Robben! |

My faves are Supernatural and Mystic mile (I also favour Handful of Blues). I like all Robben's stuff, but these are the ones I keep coming back to. Not sure what tracks are on the Blues collection album. If it's a 'Best of...' album, then you may want to check that you aren't duplicating too many tracks.

My two cents... Its hard to rate Robben's CDs because of what I love about his musical approach - he's always doing something different. Every release seems to show me something new and they all grow on me. But I would have to include as my favorites "Tiger Walk", "Robben Ford and the Blueline", "Mystic Mile", "Supernatural", and "Handful of Blues". |

Three is really hard, but I'll try. I'd say: Tiger Walk, Minor Elegance, and Supernatural (in no particular order). I think I have to ad Mystic Mile and Handful of Blues... I guess these five tie for me - can't pick just three.

Must have: 1. The Inside Story
2. Yellowjackets (the one with the Yellowjackets on the cover. Might as well be a Robben album, stupendous soloing).
3. Tiger Walk. Tough attitude album. |

My 2 cents...
To the first time RF listener, I always recommend "Live: Jimmy Witherspoon & Robben Ford" as the best place to start. Why? Because this is a great illustration of who RF was in the early years, a pretty mature player already straddling blues and jazz and not afraid to just go for it. And, you get Spoon in great form, which is a treat in itself. This is much better than the later Spoon/Ford cds which really don't have as tight a band, and Spoon really started to slow down late in life and his voice never really had the snap and pop of this release.
Then I would go for Talk to Your Daughter - which is a good example of where RF took the lessons he learned with Spoon and the LA Express. Good tunes, tone, and taste.
Finally, go for Tiger Walk, for all the reasons other people have stated already. He really pushes the envelope and challenges himself and the listener on this one.
Once you have these three, you will be hooked and won't rest until you have everything else. And then you will spend way too much time on this board... |
