It is a different tone, alright, but it fits the mood of the song. The words of the song have a weariness in them that we can all relate to at one time or another. There's also a little bitterness there, too. I think the tone of the guitar fits the tone of the song. It's always been one of my favorites.

Going to try a Gibson Classic '57 in bridge position this weekend. Haven't got the funds for the SD JB or 59 (yet!), and this gibson pickup is just sitting in an old Epiphone Jr. that I never touch. Guess I'm just curious what it will sound like in the Esprit. I'll update you once it's in!!!

Well I never did get the High Order pickups. I'm thinking about ordering some Classic Paf's from Dimarzio with raw nickel covers.
I like the stock pickups . . . to a point. I think this guitar could sound better though.

Maybe Mean Gene is around somewhere but I've heard that he's currently enamored of the Dimarzio Virtual Vintage.

Well, I thought the Dimarzio "raw nickel" covers were satin. Dimarzio said no.
So, I'm just curious what people have done with the satin covers when changing pickups in their Esprit's.

I looked on the Friend's website. All the Virtual Vintage p'ups they had were stacked for Strats. Do they make one that would fit the Esprit?

For humbuckers they have a Virtual Paf, but no Virtual Vintage.

Thanks, Greg. I know the Friend doesn't carry everything, but their selection of Dimarzio's looked pretty complete, and I didn't see that one.

Virtual something... That would fit. I got my information 2nd hand from someone who is ordering a guitar from Gene. Easy to get mixed up.

I have an Esprit and I love it. It is a very well made guitar. I did find the pickups a bit dark though. I put in Jon Moores and they sound like this.
