I caught Larry with Fourplay last night at the Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC, late set.

I'm not a smooth jazz fan, the category Fouplay falls into but I wanted to see them because they're excellent musicians. Bob James, Nathen East, Harvey Mason and Mr. 335.

It was a smooth jazz set. Bob james did most of the soloing, Larry soloed very little but there was one solo to die for. It was a chord solo that began very quietly, so quiet I think his volume was off. He built it from there with dynamics, phrasing and melody. A solo only MR. 335 could do. Sweet!

Nathen East did alot of scat singing in the smooth jazz vibe, reminded me of the early Pat Methany stuff.

Larry played his 335, Dumble amp with Dumbulator, 1-12" bottom, vol pedal, Wah-Wah, that's all. What surprised me was after the set he casually leaned his 335 up against his amp and left the stage. Shocked

Anyway good show, 1:20 minute set, great club intimate setting.

Next on my show list-
Donald Fagen, March 3rd
Robben with Larry, March 17th

Wow. Cool.

Many people knock Fourplay as being excessively "smooth jazz" but I find that there is some good stuff there, both on the Larry and the Ritenour side.

Ever since Gibson began building the Larry C Signature, one wonders whether Larry is carrying the "real one" with him anymore!

Great that you're seeing Fagen and then Robben. I wouldn't mind seeing them play together.

cheers

Alright now, what is a "Dumbulator"? Will I need to buy a Zenulator to compliment the Zendrive I'm waiting for? Does Robben use a Dumbulator? If so, why haven't I seen it mentioned in here? And, if not, why not? Perhaps, too much tone? Speaking of tone, should bluenote run out and buy a can of Tonulator to use with his can of Robben Tone?

I'm so confusedulated... Shocked Question Wink Confused Laughing

It's a 10K$ send-return loop for a Dumble.

Marketing with a capital M. ;)

I think I get it. Sort of like dialysis for a Dumble?! Wink

Apparently, the Dumble simply doesn't have a send-return loop with the right input and output impedances. The dumbletor does that.

Here http://www.flexamp.com/newsite_eng/index.htm you may find some more information about a D*mblator built by Ulrich Rodenberg in Germany. JackD is talking about it also on http://www.online-discussion.com/RobbenFord/viewtopic.php?t=1561
