Although I am a new Robben Ford afficianado I would have to agree with the others that this was easily the finest guitar concert I have ever been to (I am 49 yrs. old) and have attended hundreds of shows. The set list which I picked up from the soundboard engineer is as follows:
1) Good Bye 3:05
2) Qui Qui Si 6:56
3) Lovin Cup 6:26
4) Preacher 6:30
5) The Way 13:33
6) Surrender 6:37
7) Don’t Make Sense 11:21
7 for Ya 8:50
9) Indianola 6:21
10) Slightly Dirty 8:03
I will leave it your imagination why I have included the length of each song however if my memory fades on the show I can always refresh it later on!!
In my opinion Robben is the best guitar player I have seen in a very long time he is truly a gifted musician. I look forward to attending another concert with Robben anytime he is in the area. |

My turn
most has been said already ....I was at the first show...
I took some pics, that I'll post later. Including equipment close-ups.
Robben was ON FIRE, at his BEST. His sound was incredible and his phrasing blew my mind. Robben has the fire in his soul. Larry by contrast is smoother, almost in a calculating way. He did have a hard time keeping up with Robben, you could see it on his face, he was like holy s#$%T!.
The thing the other posters did not mention was this was very "very" loose, they were winging a lot of changes, not just Larry and Robben but the whole band. Larry said the only preparation for the show they had was he and Robben got together for 2 hours a few weeks ago in LA. Because of that they went off on jams in most every tune. Jams that would normally occur in rehearsals; this made it a gem of a show. There were times that I grimaced as a different chords were hit or wrong changes were played. It was also cool to watch Robben fake his way through some of Larry's tunes, you could see his ears were perked way up trying to anticipate the changes. It was inspirational.
check back for the pics I'll be posting. _________________ Rod |

Hey, thanks for the pics. This historical show is getting more and more alive here in Europe. I almost can hear them playing. Thanks again for the reviews!

I didn't want to rustle any feathers on the site being a newbie! The recording is amazing and made in 24 Bit 96 kHz. It sounds exactly like "you are there" as the mix was excellent and the acoustics are quite good in the IMAC Theater which is the reason I go to a lot of shows there. |

I can't even imagine how great that show must have been. I bet Gibson and Fender would like one of those photos for their promotional pieces. What a contrast in amp rigs, one very sophisticated Dumble set-up and one simple Fender amp and pedal set-up. Audio clips pleeeeeeeease |

Hey I just remembered this. Somebody give me a sanity check, but I'm pretty sure that when Robben started out his first solo, the first few notes he played were a direct quotation of the hook from "Put it Where You Want It." Anybody else notice that? Can we check that out? _________________ "To be is to do"--Socrates.

The 2nd show of the Evening was "Guitar Heaven"! In 41 yrs and it just doesn’t get better. I purchased my tickets a few months ago I have been dreaming of what kind of show they would do. In the end it was exactly what I pictured. I watched in disbelief (is this happening, is everyone taking this in). I have seen RF and LC many times over the years and in the my small hometown theater “The IMAC” (which was formally the Balcony Movie Theatre of years past) we were to unveil the best duo ever to grace the stage Holy Sh*t!.
This show will go down in history as guitar magic! Larry and Robben had fun, and allot of it and it showed and as the earlier posts read This was Robben's night, you may want to ask yourself "what bought this out"?...It was Larry? YES. the perfect combo
The last time I saw RF play with this type of reckless, off the handle Balls of steel, was a show at the late Bottomline NYC, a few summers ago (july?) the night after he saw Alice Coltrane play. So the saying "Genius loves company" is dead on true. LC and RF looked as if the were Jamming in Joes garage, looking at each other as to say " should I blow this solo" "should we play it once around to a finish" KILLER Vibe and it resonated.
The gear was the gear LC had the Dumble , RF play a silver faced super and It looked like a twin black face RI....the gold top was a vintage 57...the fenders won the amp war...its all in the fingers..and the mood and Robben had it and Larry knew it. The keyboard Playing was like the drumming R-A-W the way it should be and it added to make it perfect. Travis kept it real all night as well….GREAT GOING.
Any recording around...I Will Pay.... |
