Hi folks!

Just to update you all on the Venice date last night: (I gotta tell ya, I'm usually not so negative - but every time I see a concert in Italy I'm usually disappointed about something ).
I didn't memorize the setlist but Robben and band ended with Keep on Runnin...
The concert was very bluesy and even a bit jazzy sometimes (very good!).
I drove hubby and kids 2 hours from Trieste to see the show. Heavy truck traffic all the way there, missed the exit, had a fight with my husband because we got lost. Drove around Marghera for an hour. Finally found the venue by some miracle!
Smoke filled room (ouch my eyes! I wonder how Robben can sing with all that passive smoke!), expensive warm tiny beers and warm and flat coca cola from a pitcher! Barely any women except for my eight year old daughter and myself and maybe twenty other gals. Little or no dancing! The place was packed with mostly male local guitar fanatics just watching Robben's playing technique - which would've been okay if it was supposed to be a guitar clinic. Advice to you guys: "Take your girlfriends/wives with you to the shows!! Dance!"
Daved walked by with his cool long hair - I wanted to say "Hi Daved" but he doesn't know me and looked pretty busy anyway.
I was really disappointed (with the crowd) because they were wo dull - especially when Robben and band played "Badge" (my favorite) it seemed like the audience was dead and obviously the band felt it!
We got autographs from Robben after the show. He was really tired but very kind - he signed autographs for fans and smiled. He gave my daugher a guitar pick! I got an autograph from Toss Panos too. I liked his drumming style. Heavy duty! I missed Hilary very much though.
They gave out free sweet bread rolls after the show at the exit (?!?) never happened before.
But it came in handy, since we had skipped dinner.
We took a few pictures. They're on my website: http://www.ictp.trieste.it/~radosic/robbenford.html

Hi Suzie, great photos. Interesting to hear you live in Trieste - I lived in Monfalcone for three years - 1979-1981. Does "Il Piccolo" still have that caption top right on the front page - "Mi penso che i dise ste robe per insempiare la xente"?

I have to say that during the years I lived in Italy, I found that the Italians, generally speaking, have much better musical tastes, especially when it comes to jazz\blues, than the average Brit. At least, that was my experience in the 16 years I was in Italy.

Saluti

If you'd said "HI", and I had heard you, i would have at least waved, Suzie.

You're right, tho, I was VERY busy with a lot of last minute production craziness. The Italians run their shows very loosely, which can be a major headache sometimes, at least as far as production goes.

And yes, Robben is feeling a little tired from the overwhelming response he is getting with this tour and the new CD, which is keeping him very busy with extra interviews and such. But, he is overall quite happy, excited, and appreciative of everyone's well-wishing.

Hi Filmore,

Well, like I said, I didn't use a flash, I smuggled in my digital camera (remember we're talking about Italy here). If I get an official complaint I will definitely take them off the web - otherwise I'm assuming Robben doesn't mind because he understands we are his loyal fans and aren't misusing this material.

Ciao!

Nope, I'm not american, I'm italian.
I've had the best concert experiences in the U.S. though.
No pushing, no long waits, everything seems to be better organized. Smile

Ha, Suzie, may be we are similar in a way : it's better outside.
I had my best xperiences in USA too, Pro Sound, if it's rock it's loud,
yes ponctuality. But trying to get in the front of stage during a Satriani concert is not that Quiet. (looks like an italian riot ) Wink
Just kidding. see ya .Blob
