I'll probably wait until next fall before becoming a multiple offender again, but a jazz singer and vocal coach with whom I've worked is headed to the April 8 clinic to soak in some musical theory and philosophy. Let me know if you're headed that way, and I can give her an idea of all of the interesting sorts of people she'll find there.

Guess I'll repost this, as the Clinic is only a week away. Two folks I know will be there. First-timers both. Is there no one from this Board coming to Ojai? How will we get our reports? Will Robben have to spend the day with 25 "strangers"?

By the way, if you ARE headed out this way, we've been getting lots of unusual late-season rain, and the hills will be the most amazing green anyone's seen in a long time.

This is an annual event up in Ojai, but yesterday my wife and I decided to pass on it and instead drove an hour up into the mountains behind Santa Barbara to spend a lovely afternoon at the Cold Spring Tavern (built on the old stagecoach road in 1886) and sit next to the fireplace listening to Kenny Edwards (Stone Ponies, Bryndle, and plenty of Nashville royalties --'tho he lives in Santa Barbara). At least our local unseasonal rains stopped long enough for the concert up in Ojai, and while it was cold, dark and damp at Cold Springs, the fireplace and the chili were warm (and the on-tap local porter an appropriate cool room temperature).

Downtown Ojai with great coffee shops and eateries
Sunday farmers' markets
Friendly locals
Laid back way of life
Fresh air and incredible scenery

Ojai, one of the best places to live...

Priceless!

Not really. Pricey!

But, if you got it, do it!

Me?! I'm stuck in Methuen, Ma (formerly Haverhill, MA). But, we're happy, and we gets some good Blues too... Very Happy

And JohnnyZ: It's raining all the time here these days. Muddy. Cold. And the local market ran out of Mendocino Breweries' Blackhawk Stout over the weekend. So maybe MA is paradise?

Looks like lots of fun for a good cause. These tribute bands work very hard to put on an authentic show. It's serious business to them. I spent part of Spring Break in Southeastern Ohio with some people who played in a Jefferson Airplane Tribute band, and to hear them talk about their tribute band and perform some of their music was cool. I have new level of respect for the Tribute band concept.

roadwarrior: I'm probably getting way off track re the April 8 Clinic here, but just wanted to let you know that when I first checked on the Classic Rock Festival I had no idea who the two young women in the "in memory of" window on the web site actually were. Amazing what you can pick up via Google in a matter of minutes. It turns out that Raechel and Jacqueline Houck were two young sisters from Ventura who moved to Santa Cruz a few years ago, and were tragically killed in an automobile accident while driving back up to Santa Cruz after a vist home down here. Their mother Cally wanted to do something meaningful in their memories, and helped form the Festival sponsor, RageJax Foundation. At the time of their deaths the sisters were making plans to go down to Costa Rica to work on educational and cultural projects for indigenous people, and among the Foundation's projects is the funding of music education for children in disadvantaged communities. The sisters' legacy explains the Foundation's promotion of musical events, and particularly events featuring world music. Interesting. I never knew.
