I've got a new trio with an ass kickin rythym section. Check out two clips from our 3rd rehearsal the other night.
Message to Love and Third Stone from the sun.
Feedback always welcomed......
Gear: Tyler Landau/Rivera 1-12/with Weber Alnico...

Jimi's music will never die. It was so ahead of his time, musically and lyrically.
I know all of this has been said before. But its true! _________________ Rod |

As an evidence , the way Robben plays Jimi's music is so fresh while respectful, so innovative while stickin' to the tune.
Listen to jimi's covers , Robben shows us he is a great soundmeister even without a truckload of effects. Really impressive. I was listening the Bold as love track last week. one can dream about seeing this in a live setup. |

LongIslandRod: Very cool. We're talking nearly 40 years on, and your take on Jimi is still fresh. Thanks! _________________ - BlueRunner |

Sorry to derail your thread, LIR, but Robben did Bold As Love? What album is it on? And what other Hendrix covers has he done? I have him doing Rainy Day, Dream Away with Taj Mahal but that's the only Hendrix tune I've heard him do. |

Thanks Blue...
It would not be so fresh without the rhythm section that's backing me up, those guys are great.
UncleSalty - Robben did a version of Message to Love with Tommy B and Jimmy Haslip that's on an Italian tribute CD. I'm not aware of Robben doing Bold As Love..... _________________ Rod |

In an earlier thread... long, long ago... I spoke of the Robben/Haslip/Brechtlien trio recording two Hendrix songs for a compilation 'tribute' album about 3 or 4 years ago.
I heard, about a year later, that "Message To Love" had been released on an Italian label. Jimmie told me at that time that the other song, "Bold As Love" was, supposedly, to be released on a '...volume 2' CD, again, about a year later.
I am assuming (and you KNOW what they say about ass-u-me-ing ) that these are the two recordings being refered to in this thread, as I have never heard of Robben even performing these two songs in any other context.
I was unaware that the 'v.2' CD had ever finally been issued.
I didn't get a copy of the first album as I was more interested in getting a copy of "Bold As Love" (my favorite of the two, and which, BTW, was recorded in basically one live take at the end of the session).
So, Blue, if you could post the year and name of the CD & its label, (so that I might seek out a copy of my own) I would be grateful for your help.
Thanx. _________________ B C-ing U!

Thanks for the info, guys. I did a quick search on Allmusic.com and Bold As Love was on a compilation released last year called Gypsy Blood: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix Part 2 on the Horizon label. Funnily enough, I've actually seen this in my local store but avoided it, thinking it was probably a bunch of Japanese shredders violating Hendrix. I'm really interested to hear Robben's take on Bold As Love as it's one of my favourite Hendrix tunes, so I'll probably pop in and get it on the way home from work. |

Well Daved assuming that neither one of us is totally paranoid ( but do i really own these master tapes ?) i am sorry but you 've unlock my sweet pandora box.
The voice of Robben is incredibly commited to this message of love, did he sang while playing ? What Amps involved ? And is there any fuzz box too ?
