Congrats Bill! Looks like the same as Matt Schofield played in Amsterdam last time. Also a Tokai. And it sounded great.

If you insist, here is my little thinline collection. On the right is my '59 ES-345. The real deal!

Hi Ed. That's a plastic fret protector that I got with a set of Elixir strings. It's on a Burny 335 type guitar that I've had for a long time. I should have included that in the "family" picture.
By the way, thanks for the discs. Sorry I haven't written to you yet. Gettin' slow in my old age.

Never mind, I know you're busy and then I think of your age...
I just thought it might be a fretless guitar but it's only a protector |

I take it you've removed the rotary selector switch from the 345? From here it looks like there's a hole where it should be. If so, how's it wired? _________________ "Creativeness often consists of merely turning up what is already there. Yes, the Varitone is gone from that guitar, and it was that way when I got it. It's now wired like a 335. There is a black plastic plug in the hole where the Varitone selector used to be. I actually prefer it this way because I don't like the Varitone anyway (and it adds useless weight), and I have no use for a guitar wired in stereo. So it worked out perfectly. Unfortunately though, the original PAF's were also gone when I got the guitar. Right now it has an Antiquity at the bridge and a PAF at the neck, but the PAF belongs to a friend of mine and he wants it back.

yes I agree, very unusual for such a young guy like me, nowadays! But I've been brought up respecting older people |

Bill - Aha, so it WAS you! Saw the pics of that Tokai on the Tokai Forum. Not many "Bill" in Japan with a Tokai 335 I guess. Just bought a Tokai ES-120, that's why I went to the Tokai Forum. Haven't received mine yet but it should be here next week. I hear the pickups are not that bad at all. Maybe no need to try Fralins, Wagners etc? Some recommend a new light weight tailpiece though. |

Congrats on the ES120. As I mentioned on the Tokai forum, I just bought a 120 to keep my 130 company. I'm sure you'll love it when you get it. The stock pickups are OK, although you will want to experiment with the height. However, I find them to be a little sterile sounding, and I prefer more harmonic complexity than those pickups can produce. I have an old set of Fralin PAF's in the 130, but a friend put Duncan Antiquities in his 130 and I really liked that tone, so I'm going to go with the Duncan's in my 120. I have a light weight tailpiece and set of TonePros locking studs that I'll try later. Let me know what you think when you get your guitar. Feel free to shoot me an email if you want to talk more about these guitars.
Bill

Nice, nice collection, Bill!
Question, do you keep all of your guitars on stands in an open room, or just for photo shoots. And, if you do keep them out in the open, do you temperature & humidity control the room?
Also, just how many guitars (and amps, and effects) do you have? I'd be interested in seeing your equipment list, seriously!
And, since the Zendrive has been a hot topic in this forum lately, do you have one, and if so, what are your thoughts on it?
Thanks! |

Thanks for the kind words.
I have 7 guitars on stands in my room where I can grab them, and the others put away in cases. Unfortunately I can't control the humidity in the room, but I do try to keep it from getting either too hot or too cold.
I didn't know how many guitars I have, but a quick count seems to be 24, although I just sent one to my brother yesterday, so I'm down to 23 now. I have 6 amps that I built, plus a Bad Cat Hot Cat and a Deluxe Reverb. I also have a Sovtek 50 watt head that I bought a long time ago with the idea of rebuilding it someday. But so far I haven't done anything with it. I have a few random pedals in the closet that I accumulated over the years, but I don't use effects at all, so I don't really know what I have. I don't have a list, but if your're really interested, I could make one.
I do have a Zendrive and I love it. I have only used it on one gig so far with a Carr Rambler, but it sounded really good. Basically it just sounded like the amp, only with more balls. It is very transparent and didn't color the sound of the amp at all. I have tried a lot of overdrive pedals over the years, but the Zendrive is the best one I have used so far.

Bill,
that's stunning collection. I love the guitar on the bottom right.
I have a cherry red Tokai ES-100 (no-flame maple) and it works well with Duncan Seth Lover pickups.
