....Wonder what would happen if I sent a dollar...
I remember that when Manfred Mann's Earth Band first issued their "The Good Earth" album in the early 70's, you could cut off the corner of the album jacket, send it in, and be issued a free deed to one square foot of land in England from property especially purchased for this promotion.
I did this and, months later, actually DID receive my deed (with a map indicating exactly where my plot was at) which I had for many years till it disappeared somewhere along the line (More honestly, I just haven't seen or looked for it at all in recent decades and it is, I'd guess, entirely possible that I might still have it somewhere, buried in one of my sealed up boxes of memorabilia).
I doubt very highly that, well over 30 years later, the deed would still be any good. Though, it MIGHT hold value as a limited edition collector's item when paired with the original vinyl. Hmmmm.... maybe I should look for it when I get the time.
But, it was/is fun to be able to honestly say that, for a while, I owned property in the UK. _________________ B C-ing U!

This reminds me of Elizabeth's website where she has a section about the star that she has claim to. I've been curious about that, wondering how one goes about having a piece of the universe...

Never sent in the Manfred Mann coupon, but as a young lad I DID send in the coupon that came with some cereal as part of a promotion for the "Sgt. Preston of the Yukon" radio show. I received a deed for some land way up above the Arctic Circle somewhere in Canada. My guess is that if I could ever find that darn deed, I could sell it for a lot more than the land's actually worth.
Daved: Was Sgt. Preston's lead dog named "King?" Or am I getting all of that mixed up with the old Sky King TV show?
Between Sgt. Preston, Howdie Doodie, Sparkie's Gang, the Lone Ranger, and then, as we grew older, Leave it to Beaver (the Beeve turned 58 the other day), no wonder our generation grew up so weird. And has to spend so much money on mood-altering prescription drugs. _________________ - BlueRunner

And let's not forget the cartoons: Felix The Cat, Betty Boop, Crusader Rabbit, Tom Terriffic, Beany & Cecil, Rocky & Bullwinkle (& Friends)... each a mood altering drug in it's own right.

Love's Arthur Lee Battling Leukemia
April 07, 2006, 10:30 AM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Love frontman Arthur Lee is battling acute lymphoblastic Leukemia[actually: acute Myelogenous Leukemia], according to a post from Los Angeles-based club booker Liz Garo on noted Love fan site LoveWithArthurLee.com. Lee has undergone three weeks of chemotherapy but continued treatment and a possible bone marrow transplant are looming.
As Lee is uninsured, friends are organizing a Los Angeles benefit concert for late May or early June. Garo says such venues as the Avalon, Disney Hall, the Greek Theatre and the El Rey Theatre are in consideration and that Calexico, Cake and X have been contacted to participate.
"We are looking for artists to perform a few of Arthur's songs that capture the spirit and magic of Arthur Lee and Love," Garo writes.
Highlighted by the 1967 masterpiece "Forever Changes," Love crafted some of the most celebrated rock'n'roll of the psychedelic rock era. But its legacy languished in the ensuing years due to Lee's unpredictable behavior and prison stint on a weapons violation.
After being released from jail in late 2001, Lee assembled a new version of Love that enjoyed success touring in Europe and North America, often playing "Forever Changes" in its entirety.
Last summer, Lee's backing band, Baby Lemonade, announced it would no longer perform with him, citing the "steady decline" of his "mental and physical health." In recent months, Lee had assembled a new backing group from his new home base of Memphis.
But according to Garo's post, "Baby Lemonade is available to back up any singer" at the benefit "and there will be a string section as well."

NME:
Arthur Lee tribute fund set up
Fans try and help the leukaemia-stricken Love singer
A tribute fund has been set up to help legendary Love frontman Arthur Lee, who has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia[actually: acute Myelogenous Leukemia].
As previously reported on NME.COM, the 61 year-old has undergone chemotherapy, but his condition means further treatment and a bone marrow transplant are a possibility.
As the star is reportedly uninsured, friends want to organise a Los Angeles-based benefit concert for late May or early June. Calexico and Cake are among those reported to have been approached.
There are also concerts planned for New York and London, according to a spokesperson for the star.
There is also now a site where people can make donations - go to thelovesociety.com for more details.
An Arthur Lee/Love tribute album is also in the works.
Love are best known for their 1967 album 'Forever Changes', one of the most revered records of the psychedelic era.
More recently though Lee went to prison in 1996 on a firearms charge. However, following his release in 2001, the singer put together a new version of Love together to tour.
After seeing the success of Brian Wilson's 'Pet Sounds' tour in the early part of the decade, Lee followed suit by playing 'Forever Changes' in full in Europe and North America, complete with string section, to huge acclaim.
However, in the summer of 2005, Lee's backing band Baby Lemonade announced they would no longer be performing with him. The star relocated to Memphis and put another new band together.
Baby Lemonade have indicated they would be willing to play at a benefit show.
