Dan,
Seems you are in the market for a new electric. First, i don't think mini hums are the same as P90's. <large snippage>
Now since this is a Zendrive thread, can anyone confirm the correct adaptor to use with it. I thought i remember Alf's site saying that the Boss ACA -120 is cool but want to be sure. Can't find that info anywhere on the updated site.
Cheers,
Johnny

Good to meet you Johnny, I ended up buying a new, 2005 cherry red deluxe. And I agree with all that you said. I bought a deluxe all those years ago because that's all I could afford. That's certainly not true now. I think I just bought one because of all the reasons you named and one more. Everybody has a Standard or some such big humbucker beast. First time I ever heard the mini-hums was at an Albert King concert. He played a Firebird in those days. (edit: I'm full of it here. I just did an extensive search of Albert on the net and I never see him with anything but the flying V. I don't know when I first heard the mini-hums now.) I saw him at the old Carosel Ballroom on the same bill with BB King and an unknown warm up band called Chicago Transit Authority! The Deluxe has a great sound.

As to the adapter, you got me there pal. I guess I'll have to go back and research what I just got on the waiting list for. Does this thing only go in the effects loop? I thought it was a pedal just like the old WahWah or Fuzztone types.

Dan

Greetings one and all....when I was first inquiring about the Zen Drive,I asked alf about the power supply and here is the e mail I got from him, word for word. THE UNIT IS COMPATIBLE WITH BOSS/VOODOO LABS POWER SUPPLIES. CENTER TIP IS NEGATIVE, OUTSIDE BARREL IS POSITIVE. So I just use the power supply from my old Boss Blues Driver that the Zen has replaced.

Bluejack, Bluelobster any news on the Zen Drive. Alf thought he be able to send out a batch of Zens 2 weeks ago with mine in that batch but haven't heard a word yet. The waiting is the pits but playing guitar just puts the world in the right perspective.

Richard i must admit i lost my temper last week , 4 months and a half is hard for an aspirant Monk in Zen discipline. So i still don't have any news and i cross my fingers. Now since my birthday is passed , may be i'll have the thing for the 21 ( i have a gig for the national music feast).
Ouchhhhhhhhhhh guys i were so upset that i got a gas attack : i bought the seymour duncan pick up booster : it works great with the esprit and the hiwatt.
Very Happy

Hope you get them soon. Nothing out there like it. I use mine every gig. Lets me dial up a different but familiar feeling voice than where I set the Fuchs at.

As far as adapters goes, I use mine with the plugs from my Furman pedal board. Pull the plug out of whatever Boss or Digitech pedal I want to replace and stick the Zen in there. To use it by itself, I have a couple of One Spot wall warts. Very small, they only take one spot on a power strip (one spot, get it?) and supply enough juice for an entire pedal board.

Hey Richard,
I probably mentioned this already but to answer your question. I got my ZD the week of April 17-21. I had ordered and paid for it at the very begnning of Dec. So it was nearly a 5 month wait for me.
Lobster's news is hopeful. If Alf is sending out batches two weeks in a row, maybe he's somewhat catching up. Here's to wishing both of you will soon have one in your hands.
Johnny

I got it, I got it, I got it!!!! Laughing Very Happy Very Happy
Delivered at my work address today!

it's much smaller than I thought!

I also thought you could use it with a battery, I should have a spare adaptor at home which will do the job, though.

Can't wait to try it!

Hope the French mail service is just as good, bluelobster, don't think I could bear your wrath! Evil or Very Mad

Enrico,

it does work with a battery! You have to unscrew the base (4 screws) and use a PP3 9V battery. Some people say the cheap, non alkaline batteries sound best.

CAUTION: Do not connect the battery the wrong way round (reverse polarity). Make sure the + goes to the +, and - to - first time, every time!!! If you connect it incorrectly, even for a moment, the op amp chip can blow. Shocked

Enjoy! Let's hear your review too.

Blob: I hope you got my PM, and that your unit arrives soon my friend.

Cheers,

DD

Just to add to the ZD excitement.

The UK's July issue of 'Guitar Buyer' apparently features a full review of the ZD pedal (my very own, previously owned, pedal, bless it!!!). Evidently it has received a full gold five star rating, which apparently never happens in the case of overdrive pedal reviews. And there is reference to getting very, very close to the Ford & Carlton tones, and more. Once the mag team heard it, they each placed orders for their very own!!!!!

That should say something in itself

I hope that has wet your lips Cool

Cheers,

DD

P.S: Blob, I can't wait for your critical review, complete with many blobberisms Very Happy
