OK, so Robben's playing down here in the Home Territories! And on a double bill with Joe Bonamassa, no less! Thursday night, August 3, at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills (right on the Ventura/Los Angeles County border).
So who's coming down for the show and taking up my offer of a drink on the BlueRunner? (I'm probably going by myself, so any company would be great.) _________________ - BlueRunner |

Wow! I can just picture Joe stepping in for a song or two during Robben's set (or vice versa)! Double-Wow!
BlueRunner, you are definitely in for a treat. Joe B. can tear it up, and with lots of feeling! I've seen him a few times with his previous band (power trio), and they were simply jaw-dropping. I'm sure this version won't be any less. And, not to leave out Mr. Ford, of course, you know he won't disappoint. Again, if the two of them do share the stage- look out!
Good for you! |

Hey Blue...
That really sounds like a great show. I'll be catching Robben the night before in Santa Barbara. It's not a double show, but I couldn't resist catching him close to home. I honestly didn't know he was playing the Canyon Club until after I bought tix for the SB show.
These days, 'I'm built for comfort...I'm not built for speed.'
Enjoy the show! |

Blue..
Yep, at Soho. It's funny (not) how hard it is to find Robben's gigs. I found this on the BlueRockit site last month. Wish they were posted on mmmmm ...let's see....maybe the Robben Ford site???? I guess that's one reason to come to this forum.
Excuse my rant. Back to the shows.
Had I known about the Canyon Club, I would've chosen that first, but I jumped on the Soho as soon as I saw it. I made a run to Safari Sam's last month, pretending to be young again, and decided to keep it close this time. If you make it to Soho, let me know. We met at Moe's once, so I may recognize you.
Either way, enjoy the show(s).

Believe me, folks, I sympathize. I have brought this subject up to the 'powers-that-be' in the past but, for whatever reasons, it never really seems to get addressed.
That is one of the reason's I try to fill you all in with what I know, when I know it.
And, as I have mentioned in other threads in the past, often you fans nail down gig particulars even before I am informed of them... if I am informed of them.
That is why I encourage you all to keep your eyes open and the rest of us (yes, even me) alerted. _________________ B C-ing U!

But hey, all's well that ends well. It appears that all of Robben's California dates are now on the Tour page at his web site. And if they were publicized too far in advance, they'd all be sold out, and us "real fans" wouldn't be able to get tickets.
OK Paul G, call me a wimp for not doing both, but I've opted for the Canyon Club gig (much as I love SoHO, particularly the wild boar they have on the menu -- probably the result of the National Park Service's habitat culling over on Santa Cruz Island, but who wants to get into the invasive v. native species argument when dinner tastes so good?). I've never been to the Canyon Club, and the combo of Robben and Joe Bonamassa is just too good to miss. And before you call me a wimp, the next night I'm in Hollywood at the John Anson Ford Amphitheater for that venue's annual "Lady Jazz" night, this year featuring perennial sax great Vi Redd.
As for pretending to be young again: It works while I'm still rockin' away in one of those clubs down in the San Fernando Valley (e.g., Cozy's) with a drink in my hand, but sometimes on the drive home I notice the grey hairs in the rearview mirror as I struggle to stay awake. Maybe after I retire I'll go into the booking business, and specialize in bringing top blues acts to retirement homes for 4:00 p.m. concerts! _________________ - BlueRunner |

Thanks Blue and Daved...once again, the voices of reason. True that the best things in life are worth working (or digging) for. In a very selfish way, I think we're lucky that Robben is not the draw he should be. You'll note that I never mention an upcoming show that I have not already secured tickets for. As I said, it's one of the main reasons to come to the forum. I don't think any shows have slipped by this forum yet, so it keeps me tuned in.
As for being a wimp, Blue... I live in a glass house. I was all over the road driving home from Hollywood last month. Guess I should take up coffee.
BTW Daved... did I miss Robben's lineup for these SoCal shows? I see that the Ford Bros seem to be taking this summer off. Or maybe I just need to keep digging! |
