Hi Daved! my Name is Kai, I´m from Germany and I have a big Question: What sort/fabricate of tubes are usually placed in Robben´s Dumble? (Especially at Position 1? ) I own a Dumble myself (ODS 50watts, built in 1979, with 4x12 AX7and 2x6L6) and recently I decided to replace all tubes. But the new Tubes (all selected ones) were humming , esp. the Nr 1 Preamp Tube ( allthough it was a selected "High Grade"), and the touch/sensivity of the amp was almost gone! So I changed it back again and replaced with the old ones (all SIEMENS ECC83) Much better - but how long will they work? It seems that nobody in Germany knows how to deal with an old Dumble! Can You help me? Guess I´ll get a nervous breakdown if my tone would leave one day-
Thanks for help!

Use the original preamp tubes until they become troublesome. They may very well last many more years. If they sound good and are noise-free, keep using them. Otherwise, Robben seems to currently prefer EH 12ax7s.
As for power tubes, I think Robben has used Svetlana 6L6's in his Dumble. They seem to be good quality tubes, so you might give them a try. Otherwise, you might find some NOS tubes of the same kind you already own. This would help you achieve the same level of performance you have now. |

Thanks for support. Actually as musican I´m -at least not yet- familiar with technical things, but I guess I have to get use to it to keep this 30year old, wonderful thing alive - and make some people go green with envy and jealousy further on :-))!! (For I thougt this was a typical german feature) I have already heard about the performance of EH 12AX7 itself - did not know how and if it works well in an old Dumble Thanks once again-regards Kai |

It doesn't matter i am always green. What makes me wonder ? beside envy & jealousistry. May be the lack of curiosity . Like to own a ferrari and not knowing how an engine works ( which is taught at school) . This being said welcome aboard. |

Yes, that´s exactly how I feel! To stay in the same picture: It´s feels like the change from a TWINGO ;-) to a TESTAROSSA :-)) - Well, I have played different amps before, always looking for what all serious musicans are looking for. I found out, and I wanna keep it for life. Within a few weeks my new website will be launched - take a look, if you want to -there´ll be some pictures of my gear.... CU-Kai |
