24 hours after Daved's disappointing announcement and it's still ... stunned silence ... |

Hmm...
I might have to head to the Bald Hill Mtn Jam on 8/20 to get my RF fix.
Joe Bonamassa and Johnny Winter will be there, too.

Sorry to hear Robben will not be playing with Gregg Allman & Friends this time around. And Bernard Perdie's out as well! I saw Bernard Friday night, he sat in for a couple tunes with the Patrick Lamb Band. Excellent! Patrick is a saxophonist/singer/songwriter with his own band here in Portland and also plays and tours with Bobby Caldwell. Bernard will play with him again this coming Friday, August 4 at the new Jimmy Mak's in Portland. |

I hope this was truly only a scheduling conflict thing and that Robben would rejoin GA&F for future tours. They had a great chemistry going... |

Yes. At this point there is no conflict where Robben needs me, other than 2 shows he's doing near the end of this month while I am tied up with Allman Brothers. Robben's old tech, Jeff Rivera, will be covering for me on those dates.
I will be with Robben for the Yellowjackets at the Monterey Jazz Fest in September and the UK dates in November. _________________ B C-ing U!

So does that mean we won't be seeing you here in Tokyo for the Blue Note shows with Larry?

No, Bill, looks like I, unfortunately, will not be there. I've been getting the customs info together for Larry's people so they can transport his gear and take care of him over there.
Sorry I'll miss you, but perhaps next year. _________________ B C-ing U!

Well, it's a low, low, lowdown shame that RF will not be part of GAF this tour.
But, maybe Gregg can get THIS guy to fill-in on guitar (if he's not shuffling around on some lido deck.)

It looks like Gregg has a new lineup for GAF tour:
*Gregg Allman-Vocals, Guitar and the Hammond B-3
*Floyd Miles-Percussion
* Neil Larson-Keys
* Steve Potts-Drums
* Jay Collins-Horns
* Michael Barnes-Guitar
* Jerry Jemmott - Bass
Does anyone know the new guitar and bass player ? _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

Well, a Yahoo search on Michael Barnes came up with at least 3 different Michael Barnes guitarists. (A Michael Bolton link also showed up, which I quickly discounted ). One was listed as a having a Christian metal style. Another's style was country, rock, and blues. Yet another was jazz. To my surprise, the Michael Barnes touring with GA&F is the jazz guitarist (I guessed the country, rock, blues guy). Here's a link to his bio: http://www.unca.edu/music/jazz/barnes.html |

This reminds me of the time I was looking up guitarist Stewart Smith after I saw his name on a Wynonna Judd CD (same guy that toured with the Eagles a while back, methinks.)
Well, I found STUART Smith, and all the refereneces to Deep Purple, Ritchie Blackmore, etc...
I thought to myself, "Man, this guy really IS versatile!!!"

It's actually STUERT Smith--and he's a monster player.
He spent years with Rodney Crowell, Shawn Colvin, Rosanne Cash, and others. I've seen him rip it up with Crowell in mostly country settings, and provide some amazing acoustic work love with Rosanne.
Music just pours out of the guy, regardless of the setting. A skilled producer as well as player.
He's "made it big" lately, touring with the Eagles. I believe he's on that new "Farewell Tour I" Eagles DVD, although I haven't seen it myself. |
