Does anybody know the real story with some of those RF albums that aren't blatent bootlegs, but aren't something RF gets a piece of? I'm thinking of things like Blues Connotation, Discovering the Blues, or Schizophonic, for example.

These are all early recordings that, for some reason unbeknownst to me, Robben doesn't have any control over.

I'm asking because I looked up Robben on Wikipedia and it lists some of these recordings and gives a lot of misinformation as well (Has anyone ever heard of a RF recording called Words and Music? Neither have I.) Anyway, I thought I'd make an attempt to make the entry accurate because it's been bugging me.

Is a 'Talk to Your Daughter' Interview disc (vinyl). Warner Brothers W&M 155 PRO-A-3249.

Side One (14:15)

1. Wild About You
2. Talk To Your Daughter
3. Help The Poor

Side Two (15:10)

1. I Got Over It
2. Revelation
3. Getaway
4. Can't Let Her Go
5. Wild About You (Reprise)

Some of the Sleeve Notes -

'The program is divided into two quarter-hour segments (actually 14:15 and 15:10 each) with a break in the middle (you don't say) leaving ample time for commercial announcements, PSA's or ID's. The show is ready for broadcast with intro's and outro's included (courtesy of Marc Graue).
The show was produced by Larry Butler. The interview was edited by P.A.Panzer and Dave Dubiel. Final edit and voice over by Marc Graue. The music on TALK TO YOUR DAUGHTER was produced by Scott Ferguson and Robben Ford for Big Barn Productions. Executive Producer: Ted Templeman.'

My comment, their block capitals.

There's one here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ROBBEN-FORD-LP-Words-and-Music_W0QQitemZ4833014472QQihZ003QQcategoryZ306QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Well, that clears that up. Thanks for the link.

But I don't think you'll ever hear RF say "and then there's my album called Words and Music", know what I mean?

But there's a story to these others like Blues Connotation, Discovering the Blues, and Schizophonic. In fact, I heard something about some of Schizophonic being used in some porn movie, I imagine much to Robben's chagrin. I don't have any idea if that's even true.

I think Robben will tell you, for instance, that his first album is Inside Story. I'm hoping someone know's the real scoop on these things (yes, I'm looking at you, Daved) so a) I know the real story and b) so I can make corrections to the Wikipedia entry on RF.

Anybody know?

'Discovering the Blues' is a live recording of Robben's blues band from 1972. With Stan Poplin, Paul Nagle, and Jim Baum this is basically the band that backed-up singer Jimmy Witherspoon around this time. This is when I first heard Robben and I love his sound and youthful exuberance from this period. If you like Robben's earlier style with the Charles Ford Band you will enjoy this CD.

'Blues Connotation' is titled after the Ornette line and is a jazz album. The group features some killer musicians including Charlie Haden, Bill Frisell, Kenny Garrett, Ralph Towner, Julian Preister, Anthony Cox, and Jerry Granelli. It was recorded in 1988. I like it. Incidentally, almost the same group recorded 'A Song I Thought I Heard Buddy Sing' under the drummer's name, Jerry Granelli. This is a fine CD as well.

The story is true. 'Schizophenic' is a porn soundtrack from Robben's early days in LA when he likely needed the money. I recall reading in an interview once that he did not want this album released. I can see why. It's awful.

I wonder if that CD will be available State-sides any time soon...

Well, this appears to be legit so it's not one of the 'other' albums I was referring to, but I can't wait to get my hands on it.
