If I'm not mistaken, I believe the RoadWarrior has mentioned this artist: Anthony Gomes. I heard a clip or two from his latest album and was impressed enough to give it a try, and no regrets at all. Music Is The Medicine is a great funky groovy album, and Anthony Gomes is a heck of an ax slinger. Pretty good on the vocals too. Got the cd yesterday, and it's on its 3rd rerun...

Hi JZ,

Yes, I've written several posts about Anthony Gomes dating back to the old board.

I have 4 of his contemporary Blues CDs (Sweet Singin' Soul, Unity, Music is the Medicine and Long Way Home). He tours extensively ...he even plays some clubs in France (for Blob Razz ). His live shows are always fantastic ! I think the first time I saw Anthony play was at the Ft. Lauderdale Blues Fest (the old festival site) and I was blown away by his big voice and loud funky guitar playing. He's a remarkable songwriter as well.

Anthony also has innovative ideas about how to market his music. He has a "5 for $50" CD promotion at his live shows -- you can buy 5 copies of "Music is the Medicine" for $50, and give 4 away to your friends (and if your friends are nice people, they will return the favor by buying you a drink). Let me put it another way, you can spend $50 at the bar, or you can give Anthony your 50 bucks and you'll probably end up with just as many drinks... plus a great new CD !

I saw Anthony a few months ago at Skippers Smokehouse, just after his CD release party for "Music is the Medicine". He enjoys meeting and talking with his fans. I was talking with him about Robben Ford music that night, because I thought I heard part of "Imperial Strut" in one of the new songs he played. It's not part of the new CD, but if you go to the show, listen for it Wink .

We were also talking about his new CD and he explained that he had written and recorded enough new music for two full CDs, but he was only able to officially release one disc.

Anthony's unofficial new release is titled "Long Way Home". On tour, he plays many of the songs from this disc as well. The "Long Way Home" CD is not available for purchase. It is a companion disc that was given away free with the "5 for $50" promotion. In my opinion, the official new release is not any better than the unofficial new release -- they're both great! It's pretty silly that this new music couldn't be released on an official dual disc set, and distributed through retail channels. Especially when the band is playing 3-hour shows -- and touring extensively -- and performing most of these new songs.

Anthony is a very talented, young contemporary Blues artist. Go see him play, if he comes to a club near you. You can also listen to some of his music on his web site: www.anthonygomes.com
