Ooops! Sorry, don't want to be accused of being a male chauvinist like our esteemed Mr. Bill Morgan, just an old codger like him... Laughing

Cool JZ: Yes, yes. I know that what you meant was that trying to keep up with someone who shreds the way Popovic does would give you blisters. She's on my short list of great musicians I haven't yet heard live, but most definitely will, and as soon as possible.

Victoria: Which Goodman album? I was one of those "good" kids who didn't steal from his parents while I was growing up. Except that when I went off to college their original Columbia LP's of the great 1938 Goodman Carnegie Hall concert somehow ended up in my bags. Thank goodness for CD technology. When it finally came along, I bought the CD reissue, and finally confessed and gave them back their LP's. Of all of the live concert recordings I've ever heard in my life, of all genres, none has as much energy coming out of it as that one has.

What's Elizabeth in school for? Life, I suppose. Elizabeth Gage is one of our moderators, and she's a former professional touring musical theater vocalist who now teaches at a Northern California middle school. And is extremely dedicated. If you ever check out her web site, you'll immediately think, "dang, why didn't I have teachers like THAT when I was in junior high?"

As for Daved Kohl, he's one of the hardest working guys you'll ever meet, whether in the music biz, or any biz. But never too busy to take a little time and patiently answer even the geekiest fan questions. As Robben's long-time guitar tech and frequent roadie, he has a unique perspective not just on Robben's music, but on the broadest range of music imaginable. His musical tastes and gigantic CD and vinyl collection are unbelievable. Whatever Benny Goodman CD you're listenting to, chances are he has it too. Along with everything either Lionel Hampton or Charlie Christian recorded, whether with Goodman or with others.

Perhaps the most amazing members on this BBS are the folks from other countries, who frequently begin their posts with something like "I apologize that my English-language abilities are not as good as I would like," and then proceed to write wonderful prose in a learned language that sends a lot of us native English-speakers back to grammar and composition school. (And then, of course, there are guys like Ron S and the other musicians from northern England or Scotland, who claim to be native English-speakers, but you can hardly undertand a word they write.)

And finally, Bluelobster: Did you see the new story about how Hormel Meat Co. is trying to set up a product promotion tie-in with the musical "Spamalot"? At first I thought it was a gag, but it turns out to be true.

J the Z: All we've eaten mate for the last four bleeding weeks is lupin soup, roast lupin, steamed lupin, braised lupin in lupin sauce, lupin in the basket with sauted lupins, lupin meringue pie, lupin sorbet... we sit on lupins, we sleep in lupins, we feed the cat on lupins, we burn lupins, we even wear the bloody things!

Dennis Moore: Looks very smart!

Hello again,

I have some video/sound clips of Arlen Roth playing his Warren Guitar.
They are wonderful clips!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAJjyQU2tcM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CMhn3hvPH0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6hmU1glhho

The third clip is of Don Warren doing a demo of his Arlen Roth Slide...he notes that he is not a slide player...but the clip demonstrates the actual slide itself. I happen to like the sound myself...especially on the Vintage National Guitar I found at an antique market....it is just a wonderul old piece...

I actually like keeping this thread going...for some reason you get attached to it.

I hope everyone out there is doing well, and with the ones in the Northeast like me, are preparing for the cold!

Hope you enjoy the video clips. I am new to youtube and as I am sure most know this already, it is a wonderful place to discover a little bit of everthing...and to hear some great players...check out Andre' Segovia...wow!

Cool Fun clips, but just man-to-man, I'm curious about Don's thing with the black hat and the candle in the background. Has Esteban been through town lately?

And no matter what happens with electric guitars and amps, there'll always be a place for an acoustic and a slide. Tell Don to keep it up.
