when I heard that robben had done a fusion-esque album again I was definately interested. Jing Chi, can anyone tell me what it's like. All instrumentals? blues? Fusion? Production - dirty or clean.
I would go out and get it, but I have so many cds on my 'must buy' list, it's difficult to prioritise!
thanks

Of the two Jing Chi albums I would recommend the live one.
It's mainly fusion, jam/vamp oriented, with a few songs with vocals by Robben ( there even is a cover of Bob Dylan thrown in ) . That's a good album in my opinion , with great playing . Excellent guitar of course, but also some very good keyboard work by Otmaro Ruiz. Haslip and Colaiuta rock solid as usual. Production is clean.

I like the first Jing Chi album, but I LOVE the live Jing Chi. It is mostly instrumental and definitely fusion. It is my favorite album of this year and sees more time in my CD player than anything else. Robben's solos are masterful and his tone is the best ever. The keyboard player is a good counterpart for Robben, with Zawinul and Hancock influences. If you dig fusion at all GO BUY THIS IMMEDIATELY!

it's difficult to get hold of 'proper' music here in the UK. The only place you have a chance is in London... fortunately where I live. I had to wait until they got some in, and even then they didn't have the live album, so had to get the studio album. This is by no means a 2nd best, the album is awesome. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, wasn;t sure I would like the vibe. But I had a little help, I sat down got tremendously stoned (sorry). It came into it's own. I haven't enjoyed an album like this for a long time. Thanks Jing Chi. I have since come down to earth, and still enjoy it, and do in no way condone the use if herbal remedies, but come on guys, look at the cover, the name Jing Chi too.

Flame on.

Hi Wintomato. The studio album is good but the live album is GREAT. Keep looking for it-you won't be disappointed. Is shipping to the UK prohibitive if you buy CD's online? I use half.com a lot for CD's. It's a division of ebay that allows people to sell things new and used at reduced prices. Also Amazon.com is a good resource.

thanks dude. I will get it though, joking aside.
also, something I can't seem to find in the UK is the Mike Miller album, save the moon, great fan of his style, heard him on Chick Corea's Paint the World.
