Tone is such a unique attribute to a player, and as good as it may make you feel to have the latest dumble copy or boutique pedal, but it really is about how you play.My style is closer to Robben's Classic Blues side then his Jazz Sax melodies ect.. but i plug my les paul into any of my amps even a solid state marshall combo and use the bridge pickup .. its not hard to sound like robben. I was actually trying some Tele's today through a blues deluxe and some guy tells me i sound like "that guy from california.. you know the jazz cat"

I wouldn't worry about the great tone hunt as much reagards to sounding like someone... you should find something that just sounds good!.. once you get his playing down, you won't worry as much. (CLICHE i know but, you reall cant stress it enough!)

PS- if anyone has an extra Two ROck lying around that they're looking to give away.. im right here! PM me

I hear echoes of the sound being discussed in a lot of great players. I particularly hear it in Mike Stern, especially when he plays a ballad.
