Sakashta-san sent me this pic of Robben's new Noupaul Sakashta guitar. The back of the neck is finished with a thin, satin polyurethane finish that feels a lot like bare wood. Very comfy to play on. The pickups are, so far, Duncan Antiquities. That may change. Daved can probably elaborate on this. If anyone is interested in Sakashta guitars, check out his website.

That is one of the Sakashta Indian guitars that Robben has (or maybe had), like the one I have. The Noupaul is a new model.

And what's up with his Baker? Don't see that one anymore? |
It sure looks like the Noupaul is going to get some use. Robben likes the finish on the back of the neck so much, he said he wants to have it done to all his guitars.
I did ask him about the Baker, and he didn't answer.

Hi Bill,
I heard the Noupaul at a recent gig in the UK and it sounded fantastic! I actually preferred it to the Goldtop LP, which also sounded great. The Noupaul seemed to cut through better with the highs, yet still maintain a full mid/bottom, similar to the LP.
So what exactly is the finish Robben loves on the Noupual. My favourite finish to date is that found on my Musicman guitar, which is some sort of natural/gunoil finish.
Cheers,

Sakashta-san is not currently accepting orders for new guitars, but if he was, I imagine the Noupaul would be at least $10,000, and most likely more, depending on what options you choose.

The back of the neck is sanded down with 320 grit sandpaper and then finished with a few hand-rubbed layers of gel-type satin polyurethane. The effect is almost like a raw neck that has been played for many years and taken on a natural patina from the oil in the player's hand. I'm planning to try this myself someday, and even went out and bought the poly. I just haven't been able to find both the time and the energy, at the same time.
