At the last clinic Robben mentioned it was recorded for both CD and DVD! |
I specifically asked Robben if the Blue Note shows would be recorded for a DVD and he said no (in fact, he seemed surprised that I even asked). I did see one small video camera set up on a tripod in the balcony one night, but I don't believe that the video from a single stationary camera would be adequate for a DVD release.
The Tokyo Jazz festival that took place the day before the Blue Note shows started was broadcast on Japanese TV, and I think they did 3 tunes for that show. I have the tape but I haven't had time to watch it or dump it into the computer. One of these days.

Not sure what to tell you, Bill. I have a recording of the clinic so I just listened again to make sure I didn't make a mistake and Robben clearly said, "Larry and I were doing some shows together. We just went to Japan and recorded a DVD and CD that are going to come out next year." That was just a few weeks ago.

Oh My! For those of you who don't the Divx encoder, download it! You will not be disapointed.........22 minutes & 11 seconds of Robben & Larry from one of the Tokyo shows! And, considering the quality of the recording, someone is definitely going to release a DVD! This was professionally recorded. After playing the show, you'll see what I mean! Oh.........did I mention how great the playing is! Three songs....That Road, Talk To Your Daughter, & Rio Samba. Jeff Babko on keys, Toss Panos on drums, & Travis Carlton on bass.......and two fantastic guitarists! Much thanks to Mamba for posting the link: http://stage6.divx.com/members/127949/videos/1016905 |

Love it!
Anybody else notice that they're playing Talk to Your Daughter in F, instead of G? _________________ "Somebody's got to make some music around here." - Robben Ford |

I don't know what that first tune is, but it isn't "That Road". |

ahah .. if this is a serious question ...maybe tired/worn out.. normally my range is about the same as robbens and i find talk to your daughter a preatty high key to work in.. born under a bad sign is a bitch to sing though.
another question though what cabinet is robben using in that video? is it the same one as always the 212 cuz it almosts looks tall enough to be a 410? _________________ www.myspace.com/gregory49 |

Man, Larry Carlton may be one of the greatest guitarist around...but whenever I see someone playing a 335 I can't help to rambling on my mind 'bout how GREAT was Cream-era Clapton and his 335 sounding at astonishing volumes!
I know this comment has nothing to do with Carlton or even Robben but...I just wanted to say that. I'm still mesmerized by Clapton's 335 in the late 60's...and some "From The Cradle" stuff, too.
Cheers. |

Exactly, emotion. Tired from singing a lot maybe. I think it's a term I picked up from athletics a long time ago. |

My first impression was that Robben's vocals sounded BETTER than usual on the Tokyo jazz fest video. To me, his vocals sound deeper/fuller, like he is singing in a lower (more relaxed, comfortable) register than other recordings of this song. I've watched this video a few times and I don't think he sounds "tired" at all. I think Robben's vocals on this video sound great !
I posed the question because I didn't know if "gassed" was a technical term meaning that the sound on the video was digitally altered ? But now I know you just meant "tired". _________________ Travelling by train of thought |
