Great show last night at Tampa Theatre I waited till the last minute to buy my ticket and I got sixth row on the floor. I really enjoyed hearing Larry Carlton play. When they played Amazing Grace, I almost cried. Just gorgeous. Larry on acoustic guitar for Journey was another highlight.
The whole band came out after the show to say hello and sign autographs. _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

I saw David Bromberg and Angel Band last week, at the Weinberg Center for the Arts, in Frederick, Md. (I saw Doc Watson and Sam Bush there a couple of years back.)
David can sure pick it. Here's his website:
http://www.davidbromberg.net/home.html
Some of the photos on his site show him playing a humbucker-equipped Tele, but the night I saw him he played acoustic exclusively...and a great show it was.

Matt will be sitting in with Robben tomorrow night in Nottingham. See my "UK Update" post in the Daved Zone section. _________________ B C-ing U!

How I wish to be there. I'm curious about the songs they will play together. Does anyone make some picture (without flash!) of this unique event?

Hi Henk,
I will post a review of the Nottingham gig when I get more time (i am writting this on my lunch break!).
Essentially, it was a grand gig as usual, Robben & band in fine form, and I can confirm that Matt Schofield joined Robben for Cannonball Shuffle & Cheverolet. Matt was excellent, and had great tone to boot!!!
I did try to take some pics, without flash (of course!), but none of them are any good due to the poor light, or more precisely, my poor understanding of my digi camera settings. However, many other people were taking pictures, and most of these were with flash to Robben's dismay. I wish people would respect his wishes, particuarly when he asked (as he frequently has to) for the offenders to refrain from using the flash photography.
Cheer's,
DD
P.S Thanks for the pick Daved! I wish I could have had a longer chat, but you were so busy as usual. Maybe next time. Apparently you and the band visited the music shop (Sounds D****t), and I only missed you by a few minutes . I also haven't forgotten about the T-Shirt quest. _________________ Music is the universal language; speak it with emotion, listen with a passion. |

JJ's Blues, San Jose, Sunday night (Nov. 19). We were up in the area for a cousin's wedding. A ton of relatives flew in from his native Ireland, and another ton of California-based relatives drove in. The wedding banquet peetered out at a surprisingly early 9:30 p.m. but when I tried to recruit folks to head out for some down-home blues (and drinks on me, even), everyone else claimed to be too tired. Even my older daughter, the one who's my constant and irrespresible companion each year at the Long Beach Blues Festival. So I ended up going alone (which was OK -- saved money on the bar tab). Local guitar legend Alvin Draper led a very fine group of musicians. The cocktail waitress collected a bucketful of tips, and the musicians asked her to take the money down the street and buy pizza for everyone in the house! If and when you're in the San Jose area, JJ's has great blues every night, along with a friendly, blues-savvy crowd. _________________ - BlueRunner |

Just got in from seeing Amos Garrett. Still amazing. No Midnight at the Oasis solo, but really interesting player. |

I saw Canadian Blues rocker Sue Foley this weekend. She's my favorite female guitarist -- a brilliant player on both electric and acoustic guitar!
She is touring in support of her new album, "New Used Car." It's a great album with lots of original songwriting. Here's a few photos from the show:
The last time I saw Sue play was at the Lehigh Valley Blues Festival (in 2004?). She co-headlined with Tommy Castro. Tommy was so impressed with her playing that he invited her back on stage to play with his band. She played with them for about half their show -- it was GREAT !
Sue also has a new DVD out, "Live in Europe," but it's coded "Region 2." I'm not sure if it will play on my DVD player ? _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

The Michael Landau group played at the Dive Bar again here in Vegas last Thursday and Friday, I made it to the Friday show. They played most the songs off disk one of the new “Live” CD. “Underwear” was first up and the tempo was fast, not as fast as the raging Honkys version but faster then I have seen over the last 3 years. “Why you Lie” was done very fast also.
The new band is Dusty Meadows and his brother, they are more of a rocking group then past MLG’s. Small low key crowd Friday, I would like to know how the crowd was on Thursday. The last time they were in town I went to both shows and the Thursday crowd was bigger then Friday’s.
I am very privileged to be able to see this level of playing in such an intimate setting, it’s like I am in there rehearsal space with drink service. Sunday I watched my DVD of the tribute to James Taylor, it is so cool to see Landau in such a high profile gig after seeing him up close. Very different playing but both are truly brilliant.
Thanks for making another trip to Vegas, I hope to see you all again soon.
