Anybody into Jim Weider at all? His bio has him as the guitarist in a latter version of The Band. He's one of the ToneQuest Records artists with a couple of cds from his current Jim Weider Band, and the clips sounds pretty good...

JZ - this guy has been on my list of "tele masters I need to check out further" along with Jim Campilongo (sp?) and others. Never bought his stuff but have come close - and yes his clips sound pretty hot. Let me know if you pick up some of CDs.

Sounds like you are getting into the whole tele thang - good on ya.

I knew there was a good reason why the ToneQuest Report did a feature article on Jim Weider and carry his cd's in their TQR Records- the guy can flat-out play. I highly recommend seeing him if you get the chance. His 2 cd's are awesome too...

Jim Weider is one of my favorite guitarists who I've seen live many times in the past couple of years. He puts on an amazing show. His band will be touring Italy, Switzerland, and Germany in March, 2007. If you have a chance to go, you won't be disappointed. Here's his website http://www.jimweider.com/page.asp?pageid=1 and below is a list of the European tour dates. Enjoy!

I've known Jimmy since HS, he was in a band with my older brother, and I bought my first "real" guitar from him. It was an early 60's Blonde/Maple Tele. I think I paid $150 for it.

He's a real nice guy.

Hey DaveH! Glad to see you still hanging around here.

Yes, Jim Weider is a great guy. Always makes time before and/or after a show to talk to anyone and everyone. At one show in NH a couple of years ago, we talked about his gear, and he showed me his '52(?) Tele and his old Airline that he uses for slide. And, besides being a very personable guy, he plays a mean guitar. I mean, the man can really rock out. Again, if you can see his show, do it, it's well worth it!

"Back in the day" he always played rythym guitar, but you'd never suspect that now!

Plenty of Jim Weider here - it's live, it's free and it's legal: http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=collection%3Aetree%20AND%20%2Fmetadata%2Fcreator%3A%22JIM%20WEIDER%27S%20ProJECT%20PERCoLAToR%22

Oh and by the way - there are quite a few Derek Trucks Band concerts in there too, and "one or two" Grateful Dead gigs Wink

Re: Jim Weider on archive.org

IMO, the best quality recording is of the show at The Stone Church (which I happened to witness live). It featured Tony Levin on bass, Jesse Gress on guitar, and Jim's former bandmate from The Band, Randy Ciarlante on drums.

The current band members, however, have changed completely, except, of course, Jim Weider himself. I've seen Jim's band several times with different personnel, and the shows were all great. I haven't seen this version yet, but I don't hesitate to highly recommend going and seeing...

I ran in to Randy this past spring, on a cabinet job I was measuring. He was doing stone work, and said he was between gigs. Randy is another nice fellow.
