Hi all. I have a confirmed date of February 7th in Oklahoma City. Robben is touring with singer, songwriter, and producer Stephen Bruton. Roscoe Beck I believe is the bass player for this show.
This is the long awaited appearance of Robben in the Oklahoma City area. Other dates will be announced soon I am sure.
The way it was explained to me is it is Stephen Bruton's tour. Robben will play with Stephen and vice versa. Sounds very interesting.

Oklahoma City???!!! YES! 2 hours away from here....
Does this means that RF will only play some "background" guitar? Or actually gonna take the stage with his group as well?
Either way, I'm in. Yes indeed. |

I think they are still working out the details. It is a Stephen Bruton with Robben Ford. As I get more details I will let you know. Whether Robben comes out for a set with the band by himself it is uncertain. They just may combine material. This is breaking news. I know I'm not one that usually breaks this kind of thing. I was however given permission to list on Pollstar.
I'm asking those questions now for the fans that want to know what they are buying tickets for. I have been trying to get Robben here since 2003 and know it will be good however they do it.
The last time Robben came through here was with Phil Lesh and Friends.
The Route 66 Road House has very limited seating 175 to be exact. Not a bad seat in the house.

Dal spent the day at the studio on Thursday. I asked him about the Bruton gig.
Dal said yes, it is being booked along with 3 other shows (2 of them being in Texas).
Dal says it will be just like the Larry Carlton shows... no RF band, just Robben sitting in with the Stepehen Bruton band's performance playing a combination of Robben and Stephen tunes. _________________ B C-ing U!

Thanks Daved for checking it out and letting us know. I think Stephen's band will include Roscoe Beck. Dal told me the drummer and I don't remember who it was. If you hear something let me and everyone know.
I'm looking forward to meeting you. Thanks again. |

A friend of mine who grew up with Roscoe called to say that Roscoe's website reflects that he is indeed on this tour with Robben and Stephen.
For information on this show www.bluesproject.org there is a link to buy tickets.
There are only 175 seats available. |

I got word that Stephen Bruton had to cancel his appearances due to illness. Robben will be doing the dates solo.
More news when I hear it. |

Well, in the spirit of this thread, i was stoked to see an ad in the local weekly for a Robben/Stephen show at the Cactus Cafe. This is a very small, intimate venue on the UT campus. They're scheduled for two nights Feb. 2 & 3. Hey R66, any chance the drummer is/was gonna be Brannen Temple, that would be too much. With this lastest news of a cancellation, i'm keeping an ear out for an update. Best wishes to Stephen for a speedy recovery.

Yes that name rings a bell. I was told he was Stephen's drummer. I recognized the name and I'm sure it was because I have the Paris DVD that he plays on. Again more information should be coming soon. |

Hi bluejack:
The Cactus Cafe web site characterizes the room as an "acoustic" venue, and most the acts on the list are singer-songwriter types. Do you think Robben will even have a band with him for these gigs or do you expect an electric gig? Thanks for the info. |

Hey TF1,
Greetings from down the road. You're right, the Cactus usually books acoustic acts. It's just a small place with a tiny stage. A long history of having some greats play there though. They've certainly had some electric albeit stripped down performances. I don't know what to expect as of now although from Daved's post it would seem to be a rhythm section backing up Stephen and Robben. Mr Burton is quite the player and songwriter himself and it i can see them both having a blast playing together. Just hoping that it's all still on.

I have confirmation that the show in Oklahoma is Robben Ford sole headliner. Roscoe Beck will be on bass. Brannen Temple would be my best guess for drums. I do not know anything about the Austin date. I would hope they would keep the date even with out Stephen's participation. This has been a long time coming. Only thing I have to worry about is snow. Thank God for Global warming and El Nino. Been a mild winter so far here. |

Why Wouldn't Robben use Gary Novac or Hilary Jones, since they both tour with Robben? |

Robben's toured with Brannen Temple before too--he's the one on the "New Morning" DVD from the Supernatural tour. |
