Any Police fans out there in Robbenland?
I have to admit, I've been caught up in the recent Police frenzy, especially after it was announced that they're doing a show in our very own Fenway Park (and, they've since added a 2nd show).
Anyway, last night on VH1-Classic, they had an hour-long show of the press conference held last week at The Police's rehearsal facility in which they played 4 songs. IMO, I think they sounded terrific!
Prior to this press conference show, VH1-C played an hour-long show of a Police concert from back in Feb. of 1979 at Hatfield Polytechnic, England. What a great concert that was. In fact, if anyone happened to see and tivo it, I would be grateful for a copy!
Back to the subject- anyone else excited about this Police reunion? |

Hi JZ,
Yeah, I'm kind of excited about the reunion, too, even though I heard one reviewer say that their best bet was an oldies tour. His comment was that if they announce a new song there'll be a mass rush to the bar. I think it will be very interesting to see what new stuff they come up with.

There's a great interview with all three of the gents on the latest edition of the New York Times' music review "popcast." It can be found for free at either iTunes or the Times' web site. Sting has some great observations about how the group's trio set-up forced them to make the best use of the "silent spaces" in their tunes, and there's interesting chat about how the other two convinced him not to bring in a Hammond B3 for "Every Breath You Take," but to allow Andy Summers to do the chords on the guitar. Fun stuff. _________________ - BlueRunner |

I've been a fan of Police music for a long time, but never saw them live. Had a ticket once and gave it up to a friend ... but that's a whole 'nother story. A couple years back a friend of mine "dragged me off" to a Sting concert, and it turned out to be one of the best shows I've ever been to. If you've got the bucks, get the tickets - it will be a worth it. |

Speaking of bucks.....I heard rumors of $200.00 plus price tags for the Police tix. Might be worth it so you dont regret it later saying."I wish i would have went when I had the chance"

Hey Bluenote,
Those 200 dollar tix are indead confirmed ! But toooooo much to see those legendary elements hitting their instruments for maybe an our or two ! I'm not exicted about it !
I can say that next month FRANK GAMBALE will be touring in EUROPE and those 'tix' are closer to my heart than THE POLICE and they cost only 21 euros or around 20 dollars. As guitar heroes, Robben Ford & Frank Gambale are similar artists and give a whole lot more than "the police". But that's my way of thinking...

Bluenote, my friend, I hate to say this, but those $200 tix would be a steal, if you can score. The cheapest face value tix are $55 and going for way more than two bills here in Beantown. The most expensive face value ticket, $255, I've seen for sale for 5G's! One ticket scalper, er, I mean agency, had a $255 ticket for sale really cheap-at only $3850!
But, I do agree- if you can find a ticket for around $200, snap it up. Heck, I'll buy it from ya...
On a side note, I think I mentioned it in an earlier post, but the concert I watched on tv of the Police at Hatfield Polytechnic in '79(?) is one heckuva show. Funny, researching if a dvd exists, I've found that it's available in Japan since a few years ago, and if you go to Amazon, you can pre-order it with an expected available date of Jan 1, 2010!!! Why is it that the Japanese get all the good stuff first???!!! |

I don't understand the hype ? I saw Sting the last time he came to the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. It was a great show; tickets were reasonable. I did see The Police in the 90s at Great Woods, but I don't remember much about that show. It doesn't make sense to pay that kind of money to see a group that didn't leave much impression first time around.
If The Police sell out these big stadium shows, maybe they should do a cable or satellite pay-per-view. If there's really demand for this reunion, the pay-per-view route makes sense because a lot of people don't go to concerts anymore, but they do pay-per-views (movies, fights & concerts). _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

Ooops, I was wrong. I saw Sting, not The Police, at Great Woods (Aug 17, 1988) for $19.50 ! Also saw him at the Centrum (March 9, 1991), again for $19.50.
I still don't understand spending lots of money to watch the performance on a video screen in a Stadium. I also found my ticket stub for Eric Clapton at the Metro (an old dance club behind Fenway Park) November 21, 1986. General Admission $20.00 ! Saw Clapton again at Great Woods (Sept 13, 1988) still only $20.50 ! _________________ Travelling by train of thought |
