Anyone familiar with Jake Shimabukuro? I just saw him at Yoshi's in Oakland, CA last night - incredible. Here's a good video of him doing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." If you appreciate a stringed instrument, I think you’ll appreciate what Jake does on the Ukulele.

Cool Uke' is one of my "guilty pleasures." Not that I have much of one. I have a $19 cardboard instrument I bought some years ago right before travelling on a Greyhound bus, and not wanting to take one of my "real" instruments on such a perilous journey. One of these days I'll buy a nice one. In the meantime, about once a year I go by Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto, and play everything in their always-amazing collection.

For interesting ukulele stuff, check out Ian Whitcomb's site, www.ianwhitcomb.com, and surf around for days from there.

Great video! Thanks Pablo.

I saw that Jake is going to tour with Tommy Emmanuel (in Australia). Tommy is another guitarist I would love to see in concert.

Jake & Tommy Emmanuel are doing some shows together in California in February.

I'm thinking about going to Tommyfest (KY) in 2007. Has anyone on this forum been to one?

I saw the show Thursday night at Skipper's and Jake was phenomenal ! Jake shared the stage with a Grateful Dead cover band, Uncle John's Band, that plays at Skipper's every Thursday. Jake played a 90 minute set in between their first and second sets. He played all kinds of music -- Beatles, jazz, classical, and traditional Japanese, (but no polka !) Very Happy

I have a few more photos from the show on my web album:
