I have a question about buying concert tickets.

When I was young I would bring a lounge chair and a boom box and camp out for 4 or 5 hours and get good seats. Now I have had a difficult time getting good seats, the online folks are clicking in at the same time so they can sell 10k tickets in about one minute.

My question is what is the best way to get good seats?

Doing the ticket master thing with home computer but then you can’t choose your seats. Going to a ticket master outlet? Or going to the venue which was always my first choice because they would have the good tickets and not a big service charge.

I want to go see Roger Waters here in Vegas again they go on sale Saturday how should I go about this to get the best seats??

Thanks

Rob

If it's a small venue, I usually buy directly from the box office. If it's a big venue, I always checkout what Ticketmaster/Live Nation has available for pre-sale. If I don't find what I want, I buy from a scalper, usually on the day of the show. On the day of the show, GOOD tickets usually become available from the box office, a few hour before the show, as well.

MGM Grand Arena is a large venue. There should be plenty of tickets available up until the day of the show. If you decide in advance what you're willing to pay per ticket, and play the game right, you'll get the seats you want !

P.S. I've been shut out of two arena shows in my lifetime, and it wasn't the end of the world.

I try and go to a lot of shows probably 20 to 30 a year. Most are smaller venues like the House of Blues or bars, I have the HOB figured out I usually do the GA thing and get there early and stand where I want.

It’s the big shows that I can’t get a grip on anymore, I went to an out of the way Ticketmaster outlet about 3 months ago to get Incubus tickets. They went on sale at 10:00 I got up to buy at about 10:08 and it was sold out! If I go to the MGM box office I get a wrist band and it all depends on luck to get a seat.

I think your write about getting a scalped ticket close to show time. I did that in 1988 for Pink Floyd in LA I got a floor seat about 14 rows from the stage for $65, those were the dayzzz.

Thanks

I think the pre-sale for Roger Waters is going on now, but you need to use a specific credit card to get the pre-sale tix.

I was online today, about noontime, checking out what was available for tonight's amphitheatre show in Tampa (The Who). NINTH row tickets were available from Live Nation! $91 each plus service charge. Those tickets were not available online last week, but they were available today. (I didn't buy them.)

Sometimes it helps to be on an artist's fan club. Lots of artists have pre-sales advertised on their websites. Bob Dylan makes great seats available for his fans through pre-sales.

I think scalpers & ticket agencies get a lot of the best seats , unless the artist takes a stand against scalpers. Some artists do try to provide affordable concerts. Gwen Stefani, for example, has $10 lawn tickets available for her upcoming show in Tampa. How could any parent say "No" to a deal like that ???

Dave Matthews band is playing and we got decent seats to that by doing the fan club thing on his web sight, not great seats though. I think I may get one of those credit cards just for tickets, I saw that presale too.

There are some good tickets for only about $50 over face value on EBay for the Waters show, they must have got them presale. I just don’t want to spend over $200 per ticket to see “Dark side of the moon” for the second set. Of cores I would want to see it for $68 like the last time I saw him.

Most of what I see now is off the beaten path so I don’t have much trouble getting in to the 2000 people shows. I rent, barrow, or buy the DVD’s of the big shows but not many interest me these days. ‘The who’ would be a good one though, I was lucky enough to see them a couple of times.

Times keep changing its hard to keep up.

Later
