I have a version from at least ten years ago of Robben doing "I Put A Spell On You". One of the most harmonically challenging tunes i've taken on that Robben has reharmonized. I find the tune, a Ray Charles version, an Animals version, and Screaming Jay Hawkins version, and I think he was inspired by the Ray Charles version, but it sounds nothing like it. The way he reharmonized it, genius at work, folks!

Red - you might like Nina Simone's version!

I have that version of "Put a spell on you", live on the bootleg CD, "Above the Blue fish". Stunning dynamics & chordal harmony used throughout. Scares me each time I attempt to suss out what's going on.
(Obviously my ears ain't big enough)

Yeah, i was pleasantly surprised when Robben pulled ' Spell ' out at his show here in Feb. Had no idea he even covered it much less for all this time. It was the most jazzy/chord melody thing he did all evening. Gorgeous!!!
So i'm guessing that these versions are only on boots?

Yeah, a friend of mine got it 15-20 years ago at a club called JJ's in San Jose. I love Robben's taste in chords.

Yeah it was. You need to start playing out again, my friend.
