Chassis pulling...
visual inspections...
tube removal, analysis, and sometimes replacements...
assorted multimeter readings...
assorted oscillosope readings...
assorted calculator computations...
along with any necessary assorted component adjustments (usually potentiameter tweaks and resistor or capacitor replacements)...
finally an actual audio check, using a couple of his guitars and cables with the chassis plugged into his bench speakers and power supply as "known variables"...
and lastly, written documentation for his records of work performed, analysis and resulting specifications. _________________ B C-ing U!

Daved:
Don’t forget the last two steps:
Wave magic wand while reciting special “tone incantation”
Squirt silicone caulk over all new components
Presto! |

The last I heard the record company had decided to hold off on the release while they try to sell some of the things that have already been released. A lot of people are very disappointed about that, including Robben (the last time I spoke to him, when he was here in Tokyo with Larry). I'll see if I can find out what's going on.

You know, this makes me think that Alexander has found certain operating points at certain points in the circuit, and as things age and shift, he refigures how to push it back into alignment. It kind of reminds me of the Dolby SR system. The alignment is so complex and interactive that it takes a computer and a bunch of automated substitution boxes to work it out. Alternatively, an electronic genius could work on it for a couple of days. But one has to understand what it is doing in the first place. Like the alignment of Trainwrecks, it is a pity that these secrets will pass with the person who worked them out. But I understand intelectual property and not giving people a tool they may not understand how to use. If Alexander were to publish his understanding of the circuit, there would only be a handful of folks who could get it and would be able to duplicate the effect. OTOH, if Alexander were interested, I could introduce him to the peer who worked out how to interactively test and dial in complex interactive analog circuits. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Hope you guys don't mind me crashing your thread but as a relative newcomer to the Forum, I'm keen to catch up as much lost ground as possible. Robben's sound is locked inside my head and reverberating around it like I don't know what. I've even hooked up with a tutor (for the first time ever) to get some jazz progressions going.
I feel like I just tracked down my long lost brother only to find he left town the day before I got here! I can;t find anything that Robben plays that I donlt like and that never happened before!!!!
I am awaiting my Zendrive with much frustration at the long wait but things seem to be moving on that front. Meanwhile, I have a Fulltone OCD that is getting me closer to that tone......
Any advice regarding amp (use a Bassman) and guitar settings is appreciated. I plat a US Tel, LP with Burstbuckers and a PRS SE Soapbar model. |

Welcome Milibobs , as far as i remember i can tell i had the same feelings about the " certitude " this was one of the way guitar ought to be played to get some "sentiments".
I'll made some board members smile & drool , but that box , Zendrive, worthes the (long) waiting. Get your own sound clean or even crunchy at a consistent volume then boost with the zendrive with a "robbenfordish" attitude , Zen it works. Granted that you learnt your homework but remember Aeolian signature : ... no wrong notes, just a bad grin....

Finally some good news. The parts for the LP have been cut, and the CD was mastered yesterday, so it looks like the album is on its way. I'll pass on any further information I get.
