Hey, how does one get hold of that Mike Clark show? I heard a little clip once, and have always wanted to find it, if anyone knows, it'd make my day!

Call me an old fogy but it is definitely the First album I heard
him playing on, in the Charles Ford Band. The way Robben and Mark
played off of each other was great! A lot of times when a harp and
guitar player work together one of them will hold back while the other
takes over. This was not the case on that album, Robben would keep
playing while Mark solo'ed and vice versa. The meshing of harp/guit was
phenomenal.
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of that?
I got a tape from a friend back in 1980 and pretty much wore it out.
I'm sure he has done a lot more complicated stuff but there was
something pure about that straight ahead blues with his bros.
I guess I just reiterating bluerunner but what the heck.

My long time favorites over the years seem to be certain recordings that are "firsts" for me.
The first recording I ever heard Robben on, The L.A. Express.
The first Charles Ford Blues Band record.
The First (sort of) solo effort, The Inside Story.
The first Yellowjackets (even better now updated with the additional demo tracks).
The first recording of his latter day popularity/style, TTYD.
The first Jing Chi.
Oh, and Tiger Walk
Is that too many? Wink

(it's difficult, if I added one more it would be Supernatural ... and soon it will be the new one Very Happy

)

Yeah, I found it it must be their first 'cause those are all the songs, 1972.
I didn't hear it until 1980 or so.
Blue and Lonesome, Wild Woman, Reconsider Baby, ...
Man those guys were just kids but they were nailin it aye?

Patfitz, that always blows me away, too. I listen to that stuff or find a video on Youtube from that period, and it's just amazing that a group of (basically) kids can be so in the pocket. Robben's rhythm playing was already great and his leads show a well developed sense of melody and phrasing that has only gotten better over the years.

Yup, it just goes to show what a good solid musical upbringing can do.
I've noticed that a lot of good musicians came from a household
who's parents were musical and were exposed to it from a very young
age. I guess both the parents were players.

wooooo, hey, I just realised I'm a senior member. I'm not sure when that happened or how or why, but heck, I am having some major palpitations here. I shall sit for a while and nervously fiddle with my Zendrive..........two live shows now looming where I can hammer the daylights out of my Bassman/BDRI twin amp rig, unleash the pedal board of Thor and scare some old ladies......hur, hur........ye may well tremble........

New here, but not to Robben's music. My favorite of his at this time is the New Morning Paris Concert of 2004. Not sure if it is released as an album, but I have the dvd. Listen to those tunes a lot lately. A great performance that shows to me how good he really is at his art.

And today I re-watched the interview on that dvd where Robben gives a history of his musical and career development. Adds a little more understanding and enjoyment of his music for me.
