I'd like to recommend a great book: Practicing: A Musician's Return to Music by Glenn Kurtz. It's beautifully written and inspiring, regardless of what level musician you may be. It's the kind of book you'll read over and over again.

Thanks for the recommendation RW,I just finished the book. A very enjoyable read...but now I feel like a schmuk because it reminded me what it takes to reach certain goals and I realize my practice routine sucks!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the book, Bluenote! I've been reading a lot about music and creativity lately. I'm just finishing Madeline Bruser's "The Art of Practicing" and I didn't enjoy reading it. There was too much info about piano for me to embrace it fully.

Just for fun, I am reading Oliver Sacks "Musicophilia". This book is fascinating. Sacks is a great writer and the stories he tells in this book, about the power of music, will blow your mind away.

My big read is a book that will take me another 10 weeks to complete, Julia Cameron's "The Complete Artist's Way". This book was recommended by a performing songwriter, Doug Spears, who was teaching a songwriting workshop at a music camp I attended a few weeks ago. The Artists Way is more than a book, it's a self-directed course on unblocking your natural creativity. I'm enjoying the book and the tasks, which includes three pages of writing each morning (Morning Pages).
If there is anyone on this forum that has read "The Artist's Way" and would like to be part of my extended support network, please send me a PM.

I appreciate the further recommendations, I will pick those up. I also read the "art of practicing" and also did not care for it, hell I dont even think I finished it, but I have considered giving it another chance!
