Hey guys, I am new here. Just wanted to say hello and that I loved the VG Robben Ford interview. Man, what I would give for a chance to try out his Tele!

I managed to get a real close look at that thing at a GC clinic while Robben was chatting with some friends. The action is pretty high and the neck is a club. I don't think it's a very playable guitar. Just that the response of that hunk of wood allows him to really speak though it. He always seems to play cleaner and pull off more involved runs when he's playing other guitars. But he tugs on your heartstrings when he's playing that old Tele.

Cool Finally picked up the issue of Vintage Guitar, for two reasons. First, Robben. And second because I ran into Laurie Morvan at the Southland Blues Magazine booth at the Long Beach Blues and she basically said "Hey, I'm in Vintage Guitar, go buy it!" (Not a bad article about Laurie, 'tho I wish I could learn more about her alternative life as an engineer and college professor.)

Anyway, the article about Robben is fun. Especially fun is the photo of the Duo Sonic. Reminds one that once upon a time Robben was a teenager who got hooked on guitar.

And speaking of teenager: There's an interview with Robben on the latest e-zine release from BluesWax (www.blueswax.com). You need to sign up to get it, but signing up involves nothing more than making up a name for yourself, giving them an e-mail, and then coverting some of the letters in your dog's name to numbers so that you can use it as a password. No real surprises, but interesting stuff I haven't seen in other interviews. And, of course, when asked about Ojai, Robben tells the interview that its a hundred miles from L.A. Those of us who live around here know that L.A.'s really only 50-60 miles away as the crow flies, but telling folks that it's 100 miles away makes us feel more relaxed and country-ish.

There's also an article on Laurie in the new Guitar Player.

I liked the mag and the article. It was interesting that Robben mentioned that he is a Buddhist, insomuch as it may shed light on his approach to his music. Much of the recent critique of "Truth", particularly the AMG column, calls for Robben to change direction. What the critics may fail to understand is that Robben's musical path comes from within. It makes me happy to think "Robben Ford, Zen guitar". Plus I really do connect with the music even though some of the critics may not. I enjoy "Truth" more and more with each spin.

I read this cover story too, and I loved it. It's a well done interview.

Thanks for the info. I like my action high also. Your description of his Tele makes my mouth water for a chance to try it out even more!
