OK, I've made a few contributions so far, and thought I should introduce myself as this seems an informative and good-natured site.
Rob MacKillop. Been playing for a thousand years, all styles and instruments. My first love was Hard Again by Muddy Waters (still a favourite). Professionally I've played mainly lutes and historical guitars (made a few CDs), but I've always loved and played blues. I really dig Robben's phrasing and tone. I had his 'Blues and Beyond' DVD, but stupidly loaned it to a student, who of course never turned up again. I have the 'Handful of Blues' disc and have 'Orbit' on order.
I'm currently Musician In Residence at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, organising and playing with lots of groups from medieval to experimental. I teach improv to Music Therapy students, and a course on Music in Film.
I have a Yamaha SA2200, a 335 clone - but better than most 335s I've managed to get my hands on. I've just bought a surprisingly good second-hand Japanese Tele from 1986, which is about to get Bare Knuckle pickups installed. I'm a great fan of Roy Buchanan. The pickups are copies of a 1950 Tele. Looking forward to that arriving. I play through a Fender Blues Junior, the Limited Edition upgrade. I haven't any pedals yet, but am thinking of the Fulltone OCD.
Nice to meet you guys!

Hi Rob,
Welcome!
I checked out your website and I really like your fingerstyle arrangement and playing of Meat Shakin Woman. Your page of Blues playing ideas is great too. Thanks ! _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

Thanks guys. It's funny that all my recordings have been in historical music, but I've been a lifelong blues and jazz fan. It's just the way it has worked out. From now on I would like to do more Blues and jazz-rock. Life is too short to do everything - but I'll die trying!
