Anyway, A, if you have a copy of RF with Spoon Live at the Mint you need to play the blues nazis their version of Jimmy Reed's 'Big Boss Man' - it really swings.

Trouble in Mind really tears me up. You can hear Jimmy exclaim in the middle of Robbens solo.

I saw Spoon just before he died at the KCSM jazz festival (local college radio that plays jazz round the clock, you can even stream them over the web, www.kcsm.org). The mayor of San Mateo came out beforehand to make a speech and present the key to the city to "Billy Witherspoon!". Spoon walked up to the mike, glanced back over his shoulder and shouted "it's Jimmy!" and everybody laughed. I don't know who got fired in the mayors office or if he ever showed his face on the campus again.

The first time I saw RF was with Spoon in the early 70s in Europe. What a thrill. I have been a big fan of both ever since. The recordings Spoon did with Ben Webster on tenor are breathtaking. I really enjoy listening to the earlier versions of classic Spoon tunes, then comparing them to how he did them with RF and other contemporary musicians to hear how the musicians respond to his vocal style. He was a true great.
