Well I just got home from the 8:00 show at Yoshis and Robben was great again..........Although he was having equipment issues part way into the set and he seemed distracted, but recovered. Michael Landau was into the groove tonight.

He opened again with Lateral climb which I think was one of my favorites. He didn't play One man's ceiling is another man's floor nor did he on Wednesday. I'm wondering if not having Susan Tedeshi there has something to do with that, but I don't know if he played it on any of the other sets so....Maybe someone else heard it on a different night or later set.

He played Nobody's fault but mine and on both occasions I missed the absence of a keyboard player. When I have seen RF the last two years the keyboards make up for the lack of a horn section. Not completely, but it does work. I really felt that tune just does not work that well with 2 guitars, base, drums

I'm wondering did anyone see both the Wed 8 and Fri 8 shows? Did you enjoy one more than the other?

Hi kirk95, me and my dad are going to the Wednesday show at 8:00 pm and the Sunday show at 9:00 pm. Hope to see you there! Should be a great show!

Hey Phil nice meeting you! Hope the show Sunday is as good as set one Wednesday! Robben was so one that first set!!!

He played the 335 at least 40% of that set!

Oh jeez, Kirk, I kept looking at you across the room, thinking it looked like you...then I decided I was nuts. I'm so mad at myself for not walking over to take a closer look. I figured I was being rude enough just staring at you for as long as I did. It was the first time I didn't sit in the front row against the stage...there were no seats, so I had to sit up in the next level where the sound is great, but not close enough for me.

Anyway, I will be there tomorrow night at 10, and Sunday night. Wednesday was killer. Landau just served as a catalyst to drive Robben to play incredibly. And Landau's guitar was absolutely on fire! That was just the first show...can't wait for tomorrow night and Sunday.

Oh, and the reason it is sold out for Saturday is that some foundation bought out all the tickets AND THE WHOLE RESTAURANT for some charity benefit thing. Must have cost a fortune!

love, elizabeth

I was there Wednesday and Thursday for both early and late sets. The early sets I was 2nd row stage left right in front of Robben. The late sets they made me move back.

Robben makes me remember why I love guitar so much! Watching the same songs over 4 sets, Robben plays different every time out. On tunes like Cannon Ball Shuffle and Lovin' Cup, Robben just owns those grooves. I would not want to be the other guitarist soloing on those those tunes with Robben - he owns those grooves!

Mike was great both nights. Although, Wednesday he was buried in the mix - Thursday was much better! Kudos for Mike to play on Robben's gig! That is confidence!

I was so surprised that most of the Yoshi's guitar crowd had never heard of Mike. Mike was great with Robben... Mike is off the charts on his own gig at the Baked Potato in West LA. Go see him there and it will change your life! I would love to see Robben do Mike's gig!

Ok I'm completly re inspired again. Thank you Robben and Mike!

Next week is John Scofield at Yoshi's!! I will be there again!

When Robben was playing at the Fillmore once, Santana sat in for a couple of tunes. Lovin' Cup was one of them. Carlos looked like a lost little boy, as he futilely tried to keep the pace w/ RF in the solos. He eventually gave up and just stood there sheepishly for the remainder of the song. It was quite a humbling situation for him I'm sure. I felt sorry for the mighty Santana. It was also one of the best performances I've seen by Robben...

The Friday night 10 pm show was good, but not as good as the first show on Wednesday night, in my opinion. Everything was great, but no fireworks, until the second encore, Lovin' Cup, which exploded. It was amazing.

I am going again tonight at 7, and I understand the 7 is sold out, with tickets remaining for 9 pm. I would love to stay for that one, since Robben has been known to play even more amazingly at the closing show of the run. Okay, I would have liked to have been at all the shows!

I sat up in the second tier, which I don't like. I get impatient with the waiters/waitresses passing in front of me (I realize they make their $ that way) and I CANNOT STAND IT WHEN PEOPLE TALK WHILE ROBBEN IS PLAYING!! Forgive me for screaming, but it is so rude. I don't want to hear THEM, I want to hear Robben. For that matter, I don't even want to hear them as back-up to Robben.

There. I feel much better now. I am too chicken to ever say anything. (It amazes me that no one ever believes me when I tell them that, but it is the truth.)

love, elizabeth [/b]

That first show Wednesday was the best of the 4 shows I saw. Robben was so into it! I've never seen him that enthusiastic and energized!

elizabeth..why didn't you come say hello?? I don't get to see Robben's #1 fan that often! :-)

I sat there, saying, "That looks like David," but then I decided I was crazy. I should have just gotten up to take a closer look, but I didn't want to be rude, since I had already been staring. So, instead of being rude, I was just plain stupid! As I said, I am so mad at myself for being such an idiot!

I wonder how last night's show was, with whatever benefit had bought out the entire place, restaurant and club. We were told there was going to be one LONG show. When we left Friday night, they were already moving furniture in the restaurant, getting ready for it. Hmmmm. Who were the people who did it?

I thought the Wed 8 show was better than the Fri 8 show, but part of me was wondering if it was because I hadn't seen Robben in a year and after seeing one show I was jaded. Now that I have read what Elizabeth wrote I guess my feeling was right.

I also agree strongly with the talking during a performance issue. A quick comment in the ear between songs to me is acceptable. I was sitting in the top tier at a table for the Fri show and the couple in front of us were a real distraction. Not only talking, but MAJOR P.D.A. If you are constantly kissing why bother coming to a show? And on top of it when the kissing was not going on she was constantly shaking and flicking her hair. I am not the type to have issues with P.D.A., but when it is two feet in front of me while I am trying to watch my favorite musician I don't think I am out of line by feeling a bit bent.

I feel like I need one of those t-shirts:

"My friends got to see Robben Ford at Yoshi's and all I got was this lousy t-shirt"!

Thanks for all the great reviews, and even though the hair flipping and smooching was distracting, at least you had the opportunity to see him live!

Thanks for the reports to all...Can't say how much I would have liked to see those shows.
If only Robben decided to record them and sell them on his website...
