the dutch magazine www.gitarist.nl proclaimed "truth" cd of the month. The article[some quotes]:"note after note and lick after lick it is clear why this man is adored by so many guitarists. In" one man's ceiling...."you realise what a good singer ford is.robben ford's playing and compositions take you to new musical dimensions.

There have been various UK reviews - all positive. As for me, I'm still pinging between this more recent material and the older stuff that is more familiar to the long serving Robben fans. There is so much breadth to the stuff it is quite scary - he has opened up some interesting doors along the way and just when you think you have his measure, he pops in yet another new idea.

I still love 'Top of the Hill' which appeals to my funky style of playing and features one of Robben's best vocal forays IMHO!

Thanks for that Loek!

I have to say, with more plays and more attentitive listening, "Truth" is a stellar CD. It has been quite cleverly constructed, song order/style wise, and the guitar solo's are great as usual. Harmonically there are some great tracks too, such as "River of Souls". It is certainly the better of his last 3 releases, IMHO.

"Truth" is in my top 3 CD's of this year, which include Matt Schofield's "Ear to the ground", and Neil Larsen's "Orbit" (Robben on Guitar!).

Could not agree more with you DD. Certainly Robben's finest out of his last three releases. I'm digging it more and more.
It has also been named "CD of the month" by Guitarist (UK). They also have an interview of him and Larry Carlton in their last issue by the way.

Millibobs : I love "Man on the hill" as well, one of my favourite from RF. It just flows effortlessly...

did I get the title wrong? I thought it was 'Top of the Hill'.....must be senility......but, yes, it flows beautifully.

yes it is a great cd, can't say better than or worse than ...
cause that depends on your state of mind while listening.

Just can't wait to see him perform that stuff live again,
He starts every set with Latteral Climb it seems,
River of Soul was very nice live
Too Much, seems like he really enjoys playin it and
mentions that it was written by his Nephew, Gabe, Patrick's Son.

One of the things that I was really able to notice at Yoshi's is what
an amazing Rhythm guitar player Robben is, even when it was Mike Landou's
solo, I had an ear on Robben's rhythm playing. His voicings, chord progressions and technique are really beyond compare. During one
song I just concentrated on watching Robben play rhythm even though
there was a screaming lead solo going on. To those Mike fan's out there,
I don't mean any offense, he was/is good and was a nice complement to
Robben on the Fender.

When I heard "How Deep In The Blues" I was digging the off time guitar parts but wondering how it would work live. Well, Robben must have a dual channel brain because he pulled it off wonderfully at Yoshi's. He's mentioned in clinics and videos that he doesn't do complicated things at the same time as he sings. But this song is a killer. And he sang it fluidly and bluesy while keeping that off kilter rhythm part going. I thought maybe he was going to get Landau to do it so he could sing. No worries mate. More and more depth to the man.

peace on my mind i've been listening to this tune off the truth cd and this tune says it all. The lyrics , the guitar playing, the tone, its all here. straight from the heart no bull sh---------------it, just a great tune. for those in doubt about the truth cd give this song a real listen i think you will agree that it has the blues feel (not all blues is 12 bar), , lyrics that give that message and the guitar playing is perfect. that tone is just right on the money, and notice how it picks up in the ending. yes a damn good song. take care to all gill
