Wow. I guess the job isn't quite done yet. But with music like this, it's not that hard to keep the faith.

Blobby: Had the great pleasure a couple of years ago of listening to Lalo Schifrin conduct a big band doing a lot of his greatest stuff, at a concert at the Ford Amphitheatre in L..A.. What a night! What an amazing gentleman. I don't think his genius gets credited enough.

Oh yeah, and forgot: Right now in the car's CD deck, a used copy of Keb Mo's 1994 album, "Keb' Mo'". Gave my wife a quick lesson in what Mo' does with the blues: Played one of the two original Robert Johnson takes of "Come On In My Kitchen," and then Mo's version on this CD. Very cool.

Found in the local used CD store, Rory Block's 1983 "Rhinestones and Steel Strings." Lots of nice country blues, but among the cuts is a harpsichord accompanied singing of "The Golden Vanity," you know, the old folkie standard where the cabin boy swims over to the threatening Spanish galleon and sinks that sucker by drilling some holes beneath the water line (what, none of those Spanish sailors down below noticed a little water squirting in?), after the Captain promises him gold and his daughter's hand (why not the whole daughter?) if he'll leave the Spanish enemy in the Lowland Sea. But then when the cabin boy safely swims back the Captain renigs and leaves him to tire and drown in that same Lowland Sea. (Hey, in my version, Golden Vanity IV, now playing at a theater near you, the cabin boy gets his revenge by using that same auger to sink his Captain's ship, swims back and rescues the Spaniards, who reward him with lots of gold, and he returns to England in triumph and marries the Captain's daughter anyway, then then, those folkies are junkies for unresolved tragedy.) The CD label is Rounder. I can just picture those suits at Rounder pleading with Block, "But Rory, these Rev. Gary Davis tunes are OK, but this is ROUNDER ... you've GOT to do a FOLK SONG."

Hey toneman67: Great list. If I had all of that stuff stacked in my car's CD player, I'd pack some food and just move into my car! And like seat belts, brakes, and working headlights, Wes Montgomery ought to be a Department of Motor Vehicles requirement before you can leave your garage.

This is a beautiful album. It's been out for a couple years, but I just bought it. It's mostly originals, but there is an amazing cover of Sting's "Fragile" that's partially sung in Spanish. There's also a long hidden track of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" that is outstanding.

I'm not including the many CD's that are also in the car but thats my top 6. If you haven't heard Garth Webber, you should. Garth is a serious player and these are in my dad's car because I can't drive/don't have a car. I'm very fortunate, being that me and my dad listen to the same music and those CD's never get taken out!
