I'm probably late to the game but...

Did you folks see this young chick who plays bass with Jeff Beck? She kicks a$$. She looks like a kid. Did you see her playing with Beck on the crossroads DVD? Awesome. Great energy and confidence. Supposedly she was a guitar player and switched to bass five years ago. She's got a gift. The way she bops on stage and tears it up with Vinni Colliutto (?) is a treat.

I'd like to see her play with Robben. He's dig it!

I just pulled up her myspace page. http://www.myspace.com/talwilkenfeld

She's got Wayne Krantz and Keith Carlock playing on her record!

I first met Tal about 3 years ago when she was studying bass with Oteil Burbridge from the Allman Brothers Band.

Cheerful, bouncy, friendly young lady.

Glad she is doing so well with her career.

Incredible unbelievable, a great pleasure to watch , i've seen two dates, one was real special moment of magic, second one was more "average"but bass & drums they were so excited.
Now i don't know if i'm allowed to think but she probably had classical guitar lessons in her childhood. I did a search on her : Comin'from down under she left school around 16 to go in a music school in L.A , then after one or two years she decided to switch to bass and headed to New-York, like they use to say the rest is history. She looks younger than her real age which is 21. Wink

Razz Well that's a very good news. Mmmmm , wish i'd been there too,and the opportunity to enjoy a small sized venue in this case is wonderful, In Nice, open air Festival with 3stages and the food & drink business all around , they settled up such an intimacy while pulling out so much energy that they made all the scene cosy. A good DVD is arriving.

I saw a few songs from the Crossroads DVD last night and she is great, adorable and an excellent player. I hope these dates for Jeff Beck in London produces a long awaited DVD from him, let’s get those cameras rolling.

I watched the Crossroads on PBS last week too. I enjoyed it a lot more than the 2004 DVD release. IMO, a lot of great music did not make it to 2004 DVD. There was probably a lot of great music that didn't make it to the 2007 DVD as well. I'd like to go to this festival sometime. Does anyone know where it will be held in 2008?

I watched the whole thing last night and it kicks ass! Robben Ford should have been invited but I don't make the rules.

I was lucky enough to be at Crossroads 2007. The whole show was one big highlight, but for me--and many others--Jeff Beck's set was the true high point.

The whole event ran about 12 hours, including switchover time (which was kept to a minimum thanks to a rotating stage setup). I think the DVD has about 4 hours of that, and the PBS special showed about 2.5 hours. Needless to say, a lot of great moments didn't make it to the DVD or PBS, including a whole host of tunes from Beck and friends.

And how often do you get to see Vinnie Colaiuta play sets with not one, but two, great guitarists (Beck and McGlaughlin)?

Like everyone else, I was blown away by Tal's playing with Beck. I downloaded her "Transformation" album from iTunes--it was under $7 for the disk at the time. It's a really solid fusion album. Strong bass playing of course, but some really nice compositions as well. Definitely recommended.

I haven't heard of any plans for a Crossroads 2008. I would guess Clapton will wait a while again before doing another one. But if it when he does, don't miss it.
