Sorry, can't help it, my 2¢: I've always tried to match strings to the guitar/amp combo. Some seem to sound better with brighter or darker strings. Lately I've been obsessed with Strats and Teles and wanted strings 'right in the middle,' not too bright, not too dark. Bill Callaham turned me on to a set of GHS "Burnished Nickel" strings which, apparently, he had a hand in designing. Turns out these are perfect for me and my instruments. So far sets have been consistent, I've never had a dud string in a pack (they all sound like they belong together, tonally even and consistent), and they seem to stay in tune well and last a reasonably long time. The good news is they're fairly cheap - $4.96 at juststrings.com. You can find nearly any string you can think of at a great price at their web site:

Bill turned me on to them too. I use the GHS "Burnished Nickel" on all my guitars...

I love them...but you need to redo the intonation....

I use D'addario's regular way before knowing Robben Ford use it.
Depending of my mood or the avaibility of spare strings it's either 10 or 11.
They are not expensive even in France and they are more reliable than
these strange D... M....which break systematically once you're tuning up.

I have to be fair and say that the D'Addario's sound OK when I wipe them really well. I don't like the oil they put over them when they're new. It feels sticky to me.

I've decided to go D'Addario on short (Gibson) scale and Ernie on Fender scale.
