>> Ted Green Chord Chemistry

Holy boatload of chords! I just flipped through Chord Chemistry, and I've never seen so many chord diagrams in my life! Looks intimidating at first glance, but I realize that I have to take it one page at a time... Smile

Check out that one chapter I told you about first, dude. The book is laid out kinda funny to me and that chapter I referred you to should an earlier chapter since it shows you how to build those chords.

I plan on it. During my first flip through, I spent a little time in that particular chapter (Fundamental Harmonies of Scales), and I can see why you highly recommend it. Time for some homework...

To answer my own question, I've ordered it via http://www.abstractlogix.com/xcart/product.php?productid=23440&cat=0&page=2 now which has reasonable shipping fees for non-U.S. countries, e.g. Germany/Europe ... at least if you can wait a couple of weeks and choose standard delivery and not UPS or something Smile

I ordered this on Dec 17, they shipped Dec 20, and I still don't have it on Jan 14. Ridiculous. I'm in Canada, so this is a warning to anyone ordering it from the website link that was posted in this thread. I paid $9 shipping for first class mail and it's almost a month.

@spatzi: are you talking about AbstractLogix or the original website posted above? I've got mine shipped to Germany within two weeks, using Standard Postal Service!

Music dispatch.

And wonder of wonders, it arrived today!

I thought it was okay. I was expecting more of Robben's philosophy on playing. The first part where he give some background, is actually the most interesting. I guess you have to be there to get the whole day show and the one on one. It really didn't give me much of anything beyond all his previous dvd's where he breaks down various songs or vamps. I thought it was going to be more one on one and more questions from the students. I mean, that's the point of this DVD, isn't it. Most of the time, all these guys are just sitting here, nobody is really interacting/playing in any way with Robben, or if they did, that part was not shown.

Having said that, the one thing I took away, which I already knew, but was glad to hear again, was the emphasis on "Play less, not more."

One of the funniest lines was when he said "Here's a song that's been done a million times. Let's do it again!"

I've watched the video a couple of times now, and I love it!

I have all his other DVD's, but I think this is my favourite, mainly due to the format. You actually feel like you are at a clinic, and the latter part of the DVD does have a nicely weighted Q&A section.

Like spatzi says, he does cover similar stuff, but I feel he does it better this time. I kind of disagree with spatzi with regards to wanting to see the punters playing on the main content of the DVD; I bought the DVD to hear/see Robben do his stuff exclusively, although I guess it would have been a nice touch to see a small extra's section portraying this.

The music examples are great too, especially Oasis and Blues Alley.

Highly reccomended, and I can't wait for the "lead guitar" DVD that accompanys this which comes out soon.

Hats off to Don Mock & of course Robben for this wonderful production.

All the best,

DD

I just discovered the PDF file, and my recommendation goes up a notch. I was trying to follow what Robben was doing, but since he plays with his thumb a lot, it makes it difficult to see exactyl what he's doing. The pdf solved this problem. I particularly like the simple stuff like playing a vamp with just 3 chords all over the neck. Good practice tool.

In regards to the audience, an extra section with someone jamming with Robben would have been fun. If I was there, that would have been the highlight for me, and I would have loved to see the expressions on these guys faces after they had a jam with Robben. It's just so rare to see any footage of fans interacting with Robben in conversation, so I would have liked to see more of that. It's only 1.5 hours so ithey could easily have bumped the footage up to two hours, considering it's an all day clinic.

I was at the clinic on the DVD and actually at two others over the years (one in Ojai and one that I sponsored with Robben in Michigan). I can tell you that the DVD clinic was very much like his regular clinics. That being said, it was a little less interactive--which is not surprising when you have 4 cameras recording everything. I for one asked a few questions, but at the other clinics, I asked a lot more. Like most folks, we were more reserved due to the cameras.

As far as playing with the students, none of that happened at this clinic. I had played with Robben at other clinics and was hoping to do so as well. I asked Robben if it was going to happen later in the day (on a break) and he said there wasn't going to be the time due to all the material he needed to cover. I agree, it would have been cool to see him interact with the students while playing. I know when I've played with Robben in the past, I had a smile from ear to ear--at least on the inside!!

One last thing on the length. Rember this is only the first DVD. There is one more coming out in 3 months on improvisation.

The PDF is on the DVD, just put it into your computer and browse it with your explorer... should be right in the root folder of the DVD.
