LOL... thanx for the doing your part. It seems like I can use all the help I can get these days.
As for choice of venue... I have nothing to do with that end of things, tho I DO voice my ideas and opinions to the 'powers-that-be' when I have them.
I am just very thankful that we weren't at the Mean Fiddler this last time around. Quite frankly, I did not care for anything about that venue.
Actually, I was at the Shepard's Bush theatre for the first time, just last fall with Gregg Allman & Friends, which I enjoyed very much. I mentioned this to Robben and he told me that he too played there many years ago during the last days of the Blueline band and liked it, but doesn't feel he could fill the place adequately these days. _________________ B C-ing U!

I'm a huge Robben fan, and I don't take camera's to shows. But.....What's the big deal? What's the hangup? I play gig's all the time and have people taking pics. It doesn't distract me one bit.
The recording of shows is another thing IMO. That's solely up to the artist and I understand why someone would not want that exposure. I wouldn't care. I cannot understand why anyone would care. But it's up to the artist.

Well, the gig at the Poole Arts Centre (a venue that's a fair bit bigger than the Sheperds Bush Empire, IIRC) that Robben did with Larry Carlton last year was pretty much full ...and Larry's next solo gig at the Jazz Cafe that I attended (through gritted teeth) pulled just about as well as Robben's, so I think the answer to pulling a larger crowd (in a better venue) is simple - Money.
Tickets for Robben and Larry at the JC were £30, plus £3.95 booking fee per ticket (I've never understood that), plus £2.60 postage. That's the thick-end of £40 to stand, while listening to a very poor P.A. (that's only IMHO, obviously, but I'm a qualified sound engineer, if that helps) and for the privilege of paying £4 a pint!
Tickets for the Poole gig (just the day before the JC one) were £15, I could choose where I sat (Front row, centre, unsurprisingly! ), there was no booking fee ...and the lady at the box office actually apologised for having to charge me 50p postage!
For me to get to a gig in London, all it takes is a 90 minute train journey. Gigs in Poole are a four-hour drive away. I chose the drive. That alone should tell you how bad I think the Jazz Cafe is...
Robben, especially with a carefully chosen support, could fill the Sheperds Bush Empire, no problem. _________________ I first started to play guitar 35 years ago... Trouble is, I had 20 years off in the middle.

Badronald, since you've been a member of this forum for almost a year now, I'm surprised you've not read anything related to the photo issue. Daved even recently vented about a bad scene in a club where Robben was so distracted and annoyed by continuous camera flashing and he himself (Daved) having to confront offending patrons for Robben's and other's sakes who wanted to just simply enjoy the music without the annoying distraction. But, in short, Robben does not approve of continuous photo-taking (his take on it is- isn't one or two enough?), and the people who go for the experience don't particularly care for the constant flashes as well as ignorant people loudly talking especially knowing that it will eventually diminish Robben's performance thereby lessening their experience. It is what it is, agree or not. Bottomline- put the cameras away, shut up and listen, and everybody wins...

I have the solution to the camera problem!
In-between songs, Robben should throw some 70's clothing catalogue poses with added tough chords for us to work-out in close-up! It's a winner! _________________ I first started to play guitar 35 years ago... Trouble is, I had 20 years off in the middle.
