Hello

Can this delay do the same thing as the TC electronics that Robben uses ?

Anyone try this unit out ?

I think it is the one used by Larry Carlton, very good but does not have some of the features that the TC 2290 has.

Wouldn't the TC Nova Delay be more appropriate, as it has some features of the 2290 ?

This topic was covered pretty extensively in a thread I posted a few years ago:

Honestly, for years I tried all sorts of different delays (including other TC products). Let me tell you NOTHING sounds as good as a 2290. I have a Dumble style amp with a Rodenberg Flexloop 3D (which is like a Dumbleator). You hook the 2290 to that loop and amp and it is totally amazing!

If you are questioning the 2290, I suggest you go to the link Jack posted and read the post I placed there way back when. As far as I know, TC's explanation for the quality of the 2290 sound still holds true.

Daved

I have read this link.

My question is if a great player like Carlton uses a Roland SDE 3000 in his rig and another great player like Robben uses a TC electronic why is that ?

I am not criticizing either player or there choice of gear etc...

What I seek to understand is the difference and benefit of each piece of gear
when compared to each other and in use.

Has anyone any comments.

Thank you.

Completely different beasts. I got my 2290 in the eighties. As well as having 32 seconds of sampling time at full bandwidth, it functions like a Bob Bradshaw system. It has 5 effects loops, a midi port as well as having great delay and chorus sounds. In fact, back then when I was thinking of having a Bradshaw system built he asked me what I had for effects and when I mentioned the 2290 he asked me what I needed his system for, the 2290 performed those functions already.

It really comes down to personal taste and sound. I didn't clarify in my post above. After trying everything else, I finally tried a 2290 and said, my god, why did I wait so long? I ended up buying one new and was lucky enough to get one a month or so before they were discontinued by TC. BTW, the only reason they stopped making them was that they could no longer get certain parts.

You can still get them used on Ebay. The cost of the used units seems to range +/- $1,200, so it's still a lot of bread. For me, it was worth it!
