I saw Robben last night at the Mystic in Petaluma, Ca. In addition to his 335 and Tele he was using a custom looking LP style guitar that I had not seen him use before. Can you tell us about it?

Hi. Cool
First : you give a total report of the gig , including the way you went there , why you consider R.Ford's music essential to your overall practical way of acting in the "so normal" life, how much good they played, why, the set list, and not to forget everything about pojamas, underwears, socks, boots and DAVED .

then may be i'll tell u this weird thing looking like a les paul made of strange woods is made by a master of Crazy Kung Fu , living in the lost parts of south California . Doing guitars as part as a heavy healing process : the SasKaWatchShakra . Wink

It's called a Nuo Paul, pronounced new paul, and is made by Taku Sakashta. He is out of Petaluma, California and his guitars are very good but are also very expensive. My dad and I went to the Fillmore on Wednesday the 26th and Robben played the Sakashta and the early 60's telecaster, Daved brought out the cherry 335 but Robben didn't play it. It was a great show with Steve Miller, Bonnie Raitte, Joe Satriani, Carlos Reyes, Brian Nova, Sonny Charles, Danny Carrin, Tim Hockenberry, Michael Carabello, and Al Jardin. Robben's playing was astounding and his tone was great!!
Set List from memory ( I am sure that I am missing two songs because I remember seeing a glimpse of Robben's set list and there were eight songs..)
How Deep in the Blues
Prison of Love
Cannonball Shuffle
Riley B King
Indianola
Lovin' Cup

He wore a really nice grey suite and leather boots.
The Fillmore is famous for their show posters and got one that has Steve and Robben's name on it!!

Thanks for the info on the Sakashta. Lately when Robben plays around here he has been using a very simple rig consisting of his 'Dumble dialed' Super Reverb, and a ZenDrive. For guitars he brings one of his Les Pauls and the Tele. Last night he had a tweed Overdrive Special sitting on top of a rack mounted delay unit and one other rack mount. In front of that was a matching tweed cab with two twelves. He had a pedal for the two channels in the Dumble and a pedal for the rack mounts plus a Cry Baby wah and his volume pedal. No ZD. Highlights of the set included Too Much, an extended version of Cannonball Shuffle plus some other great stuff from the new CD.

Phill B, who played in Robben's band at the Fillmore show? I saw a clip on youtube and it looked like Brannen Temple on drums, but I couldn't see who the bass guy in the hat was?

Also on youtube, someone posted a clip from Echoes of Ellington laserdisc... you gotta check out the matching bow ties and conservative haircuts Razz Laughing What year was that?????

RWFTB, Im sorry but they were both new and I think that their names were only said one or two times, but I don't remember. I am sure that the drummers first name was Oscar but that is all I remember..

shebbycaster, I see from your post count that you are new here unless you've been lurking for a while. However, I just want you and other newbies to realize that Blobby's (Bluelobster) reply is spot on if not exactly understandable to the average forum newcomer. I'm one of the lucky ones with a Blobby decoder ring, however, I've learned so much of the Blobby lingo that the ring isn't needed much. I'm waiting for an offer from Rosetta Stone for my double-secret Blobby decoder ring that they intend to develop into a sellable product which I will split profits with my main man Blobby. Word is that this ring and the Blobby Ranting Language (BRL)tm will potentially reveal ancient secrets related to Robben Tone and unbuttoned silk shirts that he occasionally wears at shows...

Trust me- it only gets better... Laughing Cool

Don't forget about TM'ing all that decoder ring stuff.

Edited after a while : but , hey myJ Z Mate let's assume every newcomer
is a potential lurker
as it is it goes , so here is the buzz. Everybody knows we 've got a weird humour around there.

Well well well
I should better try to decode myself first johnny Babe.
