A friend let me hear the first Yellojackets album when it was released, & to be honest, I heard he was a great player, but I didn't get it.
Then, the free flexidisc from guitar player converted me.
Outlaw Blues, is still one of my fave Robben tracks, very fiery,(Although I've seen it live & he's tamed down the lead work).
I asked Robben once if he would ever re record that track, or release the version on the flexi disc, & he replied,"No way, been there, done that".
Fair comment, but that track still kills me.

"Monmouth College Fight Song" with the Yellowjackets on the Live "Casino Lights" album, a collection of various artists from the late '70s. That's the first time I became aware of Robben - I loved the tone and the fluidity and invention of his lines. I was a big fan of Larry Carlton's solo records at this time and Robben was similar in tone but with his own ideas and phrasing.

You can see the very performance I heard on LP nearly thirty years ago here:

I'm not trying to stifle this particular thread but there's been a few exactly like this with dozens of excellent and interesting responses. Search and ye shall find. But keep this one going also... Smile
