Oh Diode, my cheeks are red, and I am so flattered. You can gaze at me any time you like. Go to my website, choose gagepage, scroll down, et voila! (In living color!) I think this is a link:
If the link doesn't work, well, just realize that as part of my charm. (I am not in control of any of my electronic devices...I'm over my head, and that's how I like it!)
love, elizabeth (oooh, I feel like I made it to pin-up status!)
Thank you Elizabeth, you've made my day.
Great site!! Great photos and even your own Star.
I'm off to bed after a busy day and I know I'll have
sweet dreams now.....Thanks and sweet dreams to you.

Hi, guys and gals, long time Robben fan here. I can tell you that the first time I saw Robben play live was in Portland, OR with the original Yellowjackets (Russ, Jimmy and the younger black drummer?) right after the Inside Story was released, around 1979 or maybe the spring of 1980.... Robben sounded great, as usual, and was playing through a small, single 12 Mesa Boogie combo ( I know, because I had one at the time)... probably the Mark IV (? don't recall the model, they only made one amp with different options when I had it built in 1977). I remember wondering why my amp didn't sound that good (duh!).
Later, when living in LA in the early to middle 80's, I would go to hear Robben play locally in clubs whenever he was in town. He usually used a Dumble head with a 2 x 12 cab. I remember especially being blown away by his rhythm tone... he was using some sort of rack sized DBX, as well as a boost, besides his main solo voice/channel. I have some bad tapes from a Sony stereo microcassette that I snuck in (sorry, Robben, couldn't help myself... never shared these with anyone) and, even on a bad, noisy microcassette, the tones are amazing, especially the rhythm and clean solo tones. He played a sunburst strat most of the time ( it was the 80's, after all) and also used a little bit of chorusing, but I never could see what the pedal was. The clubs also seemed to mike him really well, as there seemed to be this really full stereo imaging on his rhythm playing. The clubs he played at a lot at the time were "At My Place" in Santa Monica and "Hop Singh's" in Marina Del Rey. One night, Miles Davis was in town and I was listening to Robben at Hop Singhs, and in walks John Scofield to hear Robben for a set, standing next to me for a few minutes! Obviously, he has good taste. Don't know if that had anything to do with Robben getting the gig with Miles a couple of years after that, but probably didn't hurt! The back up bands were always great, frequently consisting of Russ Ferrante on keys, Tommy Brechtlein on drums, Roscoe on bass, and often a sax player, either Brandon Fields (really great!) or they guy who played with Kenny Loggins (? also in the YellowJackets later on?). One time, Michael McDonald sat in for several tunes... around the time that Robben was touring with him (check out his solos on McDonald's albums "If That's What it Takes" and "No Looking Back".) Those were some of the most exciting times of my life, listening to those bands rip it up! Too bad they never recorded any of that stuff. I still have hopes that Robben's playing with Miles with make it to CD some day.
Daved, if you ever get a chance to ask Robben about his set up at the time, I would love to know... just ask him what he was using at At My Place.

I saw Robben play at the Baked Potato (North Hollywood) in January of 1984. He was using his Dumble at that gig. This was pre-the Fender Robben Ford guitar. He was principally using a vintage dot-neck ES-335 at that time. That combination sounded AMAZING!

At the two shows I know of with Miles Davis (one at Montreux which I have on videobootleg and the one at the NorthSea Jazzfestival which Iattended), I am quite sure he used his Dumble with a 2x12 cabinet.
I don't know which other shows he did with Miles in France;it could be that he used Mesa on those occasions,I don't know.
On his Talk to your Daughter tour I saw him in Bochum,Germany and that was the first occasion I was able to study his Dumble amplifier up close.
It even got to the point that the crew managing the venue politely asked us in german to leave because they had to get their job done and the concert was over.
We still had a long drive back to the Netherlands ahead of us and considering the fact that that was the first time we ever saw a Dumble up close and we were totally blown away by the sounds that Robben got out of it,we wanted to get as much out of the event as we could.
As far as I can remember Robben only playes on one track on the Kazu Matsui album, but I am not at home right now to check.
I also think Robben played a Boogie MK1 on The Inside Story, which he sold to Andy Brauer, who recently sold it on E-Bay.
It is funny that someone reported that he thought Robben used a Dumble at the Notodden Blues Festival;to me it sounds much more like a Fender Twin turned way up loud, because of the way it breaks up,and because of the reverb.
That only goes to show how different people experience sound differently.
It is always a nice topic to chat about, and to hear different views.
